AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at his residence, Mr. Walter Jackson, Jr., 59, of Wylds Road. Funeral services will be conducted, today, Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. from W. H. Mays Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Robert Ramsey officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Funeral procession will leave the residence at 2:15 p.m. At an early age he joined the Coleman Ridge Baptist Church in Johnston, SC. Walter attended the public schools of Saluda County. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1969, fought in the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge in 1971. During his military years, Walter received numerous honors and awards. Mr. Jackson worked the companies of Graniteville, SC and retired disabled from Savannah River Site. After retirement, he spent his life helping his friends and family. He was an inspiration and counselor to anyone that needed him. Walter was loved deeply by his family and friends. His inspiration will be missed immensely. Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his father, Walter Jackson, Sr. and his brother Bennie Jackson. Survivors are his mother, Ora Mae Jackson; three sisters, Mary D. Jennings, Ridge Spring, SC, Shirley ( Arthur) West, Edgefield, SC, and Janice (Timothy) Jenkins, Augusta, GA; grandfather, Joseph Raiford; special friend, Ruth Jackson; godchildren, Tiffany Jenkins and Douglas Murray, Jr. and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
