Police say woman tried to drive over officer

An Augusta woman was arrested Friday, accused of shoplifting and trying to run over a North Augusta patrolman while fleeing the scene.

Claudia Quillian, 54, of the 1000 block of Redburn Road, was being held at the Richmond County jail, charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, shoplifting and several traffic charges, said North Augusta Department of Public Safety Sgt. Travis Redd.

He said Ms. Quillian was driving away from Wal-Mart in the 1200 block of Knox Avenue with stolen merchandise about 6:30 p.m. Friday when she drove toward the on-duty officer, who received minor cuts and bruises after jumping out of the way.

After leaving the parking lot, police say, Ms. Quillian took officers on a 12-minute chase from Knox Avenue to the corner of Agerton Lane and Wheeler Road, where she was arrested.

Ms. Quillian will be extradited to the Aiken County Detention Center on Monday, Sgt. Redd said.

uh oh, Looks like Ms Quillian used to have way too much free time on her hands. Shop lifting and trying to run over an officer? Well, I'm guessing the state of South Carolina will take care of all of her free time for the next few years.

HYPOCRITES 08

Amazing no comments about King's Daughter speaking at an Right To Life event. I can only imagine the comments had it been Planned Parenthood. lol

patriciathomas

You're right Hypo, but those of us that follow the news aren't surprised by Alveda's stand against killing babies. She knows who founded planned parenthood and why.

pizzato

She's better be glad officer Redd didn't shoot her too.

TakeAstand

Or that she didnt kill anyone fleeing from her crime like that [filtered word] Tiara Smith did when she was fleeing from her crime!!!

patriciathomas

Alveda is living off of her uncle's name, but is also making a name for herself. She's not claiming to be MLKs replacement....like Jesse does.

KUDOS to the Superior Court judge who imposed the maximum sentence upon defendant Lee. Anyone who threatens the life of one of our peace officers- particularly one who was a former student of mine at Sand Bar Ferry Junior High School 35 years ago- should pay the highest price allowed under law.

FallingLeaves

Wow. I can't think of a nicer place AND circumstances to meet her (Dr. Alveda King) than that. I wish I could go.
