Augusta woman enjoys fun, fame from Hooters calendar

  • Follow Metro

Donning a white sequined bikini and straddling a motorcycle, Roxana Ensley once again is featured in a Hooters calendar.

The Augusta model, caterer and server at Hooters of Augusta is among several bikini-clad women featured in the May section of the national 2009 Hooters swimsuit calendar. She also was featured in the 2008 calendar.

"I've been modeling since I was 13 years old," said Mrs. Ensley, 28. "I've been on the cover of Bikes and Babes calendar and an Atlanta calendar, but this one is the most fun."

The calendar makes her known to hundreds of thousands of Hooters girls fans and offers her opportunities other modeling gigs don't, she said.

"I love to travel, and Hooters is good about paying for us to travel to calendar signings," she said. "I've been to Daytona, Fort Lauderdale, Charlotte, the Bahamas. I've met a lot of great people and have seen some beautiful beaches."

Mrs. Ensley said she also enjoys the camaraderie with her fellow Hooters girls.

"I know a lot of people think this job is just a bunch of girls wearing big orange panties," she said. "The truth is that we're a family. I love getting to know the girls I travel with and spending time with them."

Having a calendar model in Augusta certainly doesn't hurt business, Hooters of Augusta General Manager Chad Stawicki said. "There are a lot of fans of those calendars, and guys like that they can actually meet one of them (the models) right in their hometown." Mr. Stawicki said.

The 2009 calendars went on sale last week. Locally, they are available only at the Hooters restaurant on Washington Road for $12.95. They also will be available at www.hooterscalendar.com starting Wednesday.

Mr. Stawicki said he intends to hold a calendar signing, featuring Mrs. Ensley and other area "calendar girls," at the restaurant in December.

The last time I went to

The last time I went to Hooters, there was a Little League baseball team on the back deck. I'm not a big fan of Hooters; however, I am impressed with their marketing techniques -- but not for 12 year old boys.

The last time I was in

The last time I was in Hooters, and it's been years ago, there were youngsters present with their parents. I found it disconcerting. If not for the law, they could have next gone to a strip club to top off the evening.

Ok so explain to me the

Ok so explain to me the difference between taking your child to Hooters to eat and taking them to the beach for a day of fun in the sun. Women at the beach have on lots less these days...I have to say as a woman I have nothing but respect for these ladies. Haven't met one yet who has their head in the clouds...

Look there is nothing wrong

Look there is nothing wrong with children going to have a little fun with their parents if you avoid it then they will look for it behind your back when watching tv or when they get on the computer. Take your wife or girlfriend there once they go one time they will change their perception that is what I did and I have no problem. Also the food is good I go there at least once a month!

I agree with openeyes73. I'm

I agree with openeyes73. I'm also a woman and don't see this logic. How is taking a child/children to a Hooters any worse than taking them to the beach or, in many cases, a trip to the mall? You'll find many girls dressed much more inappropriately (at either location) than the Hooters' Girls. Also, I guarantee you that these "innocent kids" have seen much worse when they're sneaking in late-night TV viewings (or when they're using the internet). The Hooters' Girls are not a step above strippers.

I am a wife and a mother who

I am a wife and a mother who absolutely LOVES going to Hooters. My mother-in-law also enjoys going. My husband and I are regular customers and have made friends with most of the girls there. And they have all become "aunts" to my 7 week old son.
And as openeyes73 says in her post.....the swimsuits that women wear at the beach cover a WHOLE LOT less than the uniforms that these girls wear.
PS...congratulations to Roxana!!! You are awesome girl !!!

And the point of this story

And the point of this story is???? Who cares a rip; so the lady wears a bikini riding a motorcycle and works in a semi-strip joint. To each his/her own; I prefer my waitress to have clothing on when my food is served.

It cheapens women. Makes them

It cheapens women. Makes them look stupid. Looks over brains. I will never forget accidentally going to a restaurant filled with young girls after their beauty pagent. It was unbelievable; 5-7 year old girls caked with makeup, wearing clothes that made them look like sluts, accompanied by mothers and grandmothers who all looked like sluts as well, and probably were. They are trained from birth that appearance is more important than anything else. If they really succeed, they can work at Hooters. Garbage.

pingputt - I have the feeling

pingputt - I have the feeling you weren't looking at a group of girls and women eating out after a beauty pageant. I don't recall moms and grandmoms dressing up like that for beauty pageants - usually if they have a daughter or granddaughter involved in a pageant they're far too busy getting her ready to be able to dress themselves up, let alone the style of dress and makeup you are referring to. I think you were looking at an entirely different group of people.

What's the difference between

What's the difference between the beach and scantly clad women vs Hooter's scantly clad women? Well the socks for one thing, they are designed, along with everything else in Hooters, to objectify women. The beach, on the otherhand, was not designed with the purpose in mind, even though some women feel the need to make themselves objects in order to gain some sort of cheap attention there too. I feel sorry for the women on here who see nothing wrong with going AND with taking their children to places like these and wonder why they don't go ahead and take their children to the Discotheque downtown while they are at it. Hey, if you are going to be a failure as a parent, why not be a colossal failure so your kids really have something to pin their impending divorces (brought about by an unhealthy view of marriage and morality) on something substantial?

Do you wear high heels, push

Do you wear high heels, push up and/or padded bras, jeans which show off your figure, etc.? Do you have an outfit that you wear because you feel sexy or attractive in it, due to it showing off some feature of your body you like? Do you wear make-up when you go out (or, as is the case for some women, put it on as soon as you get up, even if you're staying home)? Do you shave your legs and arm-pits? If so, you're objectifying yourself and buying into the entire cultural "objectifications of women", just as much as these women who work at Hooters. And, once again, how is taking a kid to Hooters as bad as taking them to a strip club? I'm not saying I'm going to take my son to a Hooters, but I can think of many places which are worse. I can also think of many better ways to be a failure as a parent. I also think that an unhealthy marriage is more defined by a failure to communicate or thinking that if your husband masturbates to porn or looks at women in tight clothing that he's a sinner and/or doesn't love you and NOT the fact that he does those things (or that some women actually are ok with it).
