AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Walter "Roundhead" Newton, Sr. died September 26, 2008 at the University Hospital. Mr. Newton was a lifelong resident of Augusta. Mr. Newton was a member of Elim Baptist Church, where he served on the Trustee Board. Survivors include six beloved children, Yvonne Metcalf, Tuskeegee, Ala., Walter (Marsha) Newton, Jr., Gary B. Newton, Sr., Francine N. Sparks, Gregory Newton, George Newton, all of Augusta; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a beloved friend, Mrs. Lucille Patterson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 11 a.m. from Elim Baptist Church, Rev. C. D. Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Memorial Gardens. The remains will lie in state at the church on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the services and will not be viewed after the eulogy. Friends may call at the residence or the funeral home. The Historic Dent's Undertaking Establishment serving the CSRA since the 1800's.
