We've come to expect organizations like the United Nations to roll out the red carpet for a murderous monster such as Iranian strongman Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
And we're not particularly surprised CNN would put this psychopath on the Larry King show to be asked softball questions usually put to popular celebrities.
But it's inexplicable why American-based Christian groups would seek to mainstream the madman -- or even worse, to honor him. Yet, this is what five left-wing Christian groups did Thursday when they hosted Ahmadinejad at a dinner to break the Ramadan fast, called an Iftar, just two days after he delivered his hate-filled speech at the United Nations.
The prominent religious groups involved are the Quakers, the Mennonite Central Committee, the World Council of Churches, Religions for Peace and the American Friends Service Committee.
The dinner was billed as "an international dialogue between religious leaders and political figures ... about the role of religions in tackling global challenges and building peaceful societies."
What would Holocaust denier Ahmadinejad know about building peaceful societies when he's obsessed with oppressing his people and blowing Israel off the face of the earth?
The idea of treating this creature like a respected world leader is ludicrous. It's especially shameful that religious groups of any stripe -- let alone Christians -- would show him any respect whatever.
Anti-Defamation League director A.H. Foxman called the dinner event "a perversion of the search for peace and an appalling betrayal of religious values." He's got that right.
It's also a betrayal of America and a sacrilege.
There's a coalition of religious groups that adhere to the far left philosophy of seeing no fault. To those belonging to this group, there are no absolutes and all things are relative. Their position, and their actions, clearly define the difference between the left and the right.
justus4, how can anyone take you serious when you don't seem to be able to tell the difference between an editorial and a LTE?
We need MORE exchanges like the one decried in The Augusta Chronicle editorial above. If any group should be able to meet with adversaries without preconditions it is Christian groups because of the tenets of their faith. The Quakers, the Mennonite Central Committee, the World Council of Churches, Religions for Peace and the American Friends Service Committee garner my whole-hearted admiration for their faith-based efforts towards peace and understanding. Blessed are the peacemakers. None of these groups are in a position to capitulate or to make the great United States look weak. Their efforts may be able to help and are incapable of causing harm. They are not sell outs to their faith or to their country. They represent the best of both.
"They are not sell outs to their faith or to their country".............no more than Neville Chamberlain was a sellout in his dealings with Hitler prior to WWII!
Justus this is not a letter but an editorial that has reported the facts...This man you seem to be upholding, just because your limited abilities seem to mimic your "savior's" thinking, just adds credence to the notion that all who support Obama are without one lucid thought between any of you...This monster would not hesitate for one second to blow you and yours out of the water since by your very birth your American...Think about that the next time before you so quickly think and speak without reason...
Making nice with sworn enemies only weakens our resolve to be independent of them and their ways. The Muslim Movement is based on the Koran, which promotes the annialation of any who do not embrace Islam. How can anyone negotiate with someone who is under a religious directive to kill you if you don't conform to their beliefs? This editorial tells it as it is. There is NO negotiating with terrorists! "Breaking bread with a homicidal maniac is no way to get peace"
True christians aren't political.
True christians turn the other cheek and practice compassion, take heed you false christians.
I stand by my 5:26 post.
You, shivas and Really Bugged, haven't a clue as to the meaning of "True Christians"...Now let me pose this question, "If this man, whom you seem to have an affection, were to take your family members, place them under arrest, and then summarily execute them for no other reason than they happen to be Israeli or American would you still have the same feelings for him, Ahmadinejad?"...
Buzz word for today " Homicidal criminal". I guess there should never be peace negotiations, because that would mean talking to your enemy?
Cain I find it hard to believe that you can even live with yourself for staying in this dreadful country. You should move to Iran where you will be able to spout out your opinions on how terrible the USA is and how Iran is so much better. I'm sure there are enough posters on here that would gladly volunteer to see you in Iran. That way your wife and teenage daughters can be treated like first class citizens. Unlike the terrible existence they have to live under here.
Wow, I guess you are the one appointed to let everyone know the meaning of " TRUE CHRISTIANS"?
Opportunity lost again. If only the bread Ahmadinejad was eating had been laced with a little arsenic......
Well then by your logic shivas you must not claim to be Christian which if I were you I would at least give it some thought...
Common sense, a gift from God, would tell you that to sit down with Ahmadinejad would have to be comparable with inviting a rattlesnake to lunch...This does not take rocket scientists type of genius to figure that one out shivas.
Joe Volk, executive secretary of the Friends Committee on National Legislation, added: "When other venues have been closed, leaders of faith communities serve by demonstrating that alternatives to heated rhetoric and political isolation exist and may prevent war."
We Quakers are all about PREVENTING WAR.
Can't understand why that is controversial for other faiths.
shivas, jesus was very political...his ministry even addressed some political questions of the day....so where do you derive your statement???
Wait a second. This isn't just about sitting and meeting with someone you might try to make peace with. This is a man that wants the total destruction of Israel, denies the Jewish Holocaust ever happened and is not forthcoming on his countries nuclear production capabilities. Yeah sounds like someone that is open for peace talks to me.
In other words, if we don't believe like christian134 or the AC, we're not christians. This is the kind of thinking that is causing the disintegration of the right-wing and making them irrelevant. As for Jesus being political, he said, "give unto Ceasar what is his...." In other words, give Ceasar his, and give God his as well. Separation even back in Jesus day. BTW, I'm of the same religion as John McCain. That's why he despises the religious right as well.
You can the Christian motivation behind Mennonite Central Committee's participant in this dialog here -

Also, here is an article from MCC about the peacemaking dialog -
Since your upholding to the entertainment of this mad-maniacal demon Ahmadinejad then you need to take a look at your own thinkings for a moment shivas...I certainly wouldn't invite Hitler to my dinner table or Satan himself would you?
Christian134 you make too many assumptions based upon your narrowmindedness.
Murderous??
George Bush is responsible for many more deaths than Ahmadinejad and you don't call him murderous.
Acknowledging Ahmadinejad is admitting that his relevant. Isolating him is consistent with disrespecting his existence and his being a leader. We need to wipe him off the face of the earth as he has so eloquently stated he would do to Israel. In fact The US should just give the Israelis the ability to incinerate this cockroach when he even hints at annihilation.
What is so narrow minded about not wanting to invite the likes of Hilter or Satan to dinner?...:-)

Yep, you leftie types know that the real solution is to turn the other cheek. Sure enough! It takes two to tangle, right? Just like mommy said on the playground, those bullies are just jealous. Just ignore them, and walk away. That will solve that problem. Yep, that's what solved the Nazi issue, that's what ended the Cold War...hmm, wait a minute, maybe appeasement and unilateral disarmament are NOT what ended those conflicts. You know, if it were possible to step outside of history and not have me and mine suffer the consequences, I would LOVE to see cain, shivas and the rest of these nannystaters actually LIVE in the society that they envision. It would be incredibly entertaining to watch them try to whine about their "paradise," only to get kicked in the teeth by the govt goons to whom they turned over their liberty. For you liberal weenies, that's literally kicked in the teeth, not "They made me feel like my feelings weren't validated in their discourse." Oddly enough, dems only oppose war when Republicans start them. It was dems who got us into WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Somalia. Republicans? Oh, just removing Mr.RapeRooms himself...what a terrible idea...
you would think that a country that proudly displays it bill of rights and toots it's constitution, would welcome dissenters.how can you profees free speech, but only if it doesn't offend anyone?let the guy talk.censoring him makes us believe you need to think for us.of course judging by the idiots who are infatuated with dizzy sarah,i rest my case.can't wait till thursday! i will be ready at the keyboards!
