MEET: Third Tuesday of the month at 2 p.m. at the library on Chesterfield Street in downtown Aiken

MEMBERSHIP: You don't have to be a member to attend meetings. Friends donate at these levels: $15 for individuals, $25 for families, $50 for businesses and $100 for patrons.

MISSION: To provide help, assistance and money to benefit the Aiken County Public Library. This includes covering expenses not covered by the library budget. Members also develop fundraising programs and events. The group funds the DVD rental program and helped establish the wireless capabilities in the library. The next project is to raise money for more nonfiction titles.

QUOTE: "It is about supporting a very valuable resource to the community. Libraries are the starting point for our younger members," said Victor Dwar, the president.
