Fire damages consignment shop

The Augusta business Ready to Wear Again on Kings Way was damaged by fire Saturday afternoon, but there were no injuries.

The blaze, reported at 4:55 p.m., caused moderate damage to a portion of the store. Some equipment at the business was salvageable, Augusta Fire Battalion Chief Ivan Bolgla said. The fire appeared to have started at the front of the business, but no cause had been determined, he said.

Ready to Wear Again is part of a strip shopping center. An empty attached office sustained smoke damage, but a beauty salon, Irene's Hairbender and Co., didn't appear to have any, authorities said.

Salon owner Irene Toomey said Michelle Guthrie has owned the consignment shop for several months.

"She was doing very well, so I'm sure this is tough for her," Ms. Toomey said.
