Augusta festival

The 2008 Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival will be Friday through Sunday at Augusta Common. The hours are 5-9 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.

The festival will include arts and crafts, an international food bazaar and a literary village.

Weekend badges cost $7 or $5 in advance. Ages 10 and younger get in free.

Heritage concert

Singer-songwriter Christine Kane will perform in concert at 8 p.m. Friday at the Heritage Academy, 333 Greene St.

Admission is free. The concert is sponsored by the Hammond's Ferry Foundation.

Silence is golden

A Silent Movie Night will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Cultural Center, 1301 Greene St.

As part of the Westobou Festival, Pandora's Box will be shown, accompanied by the music of theater organist Ron Carter. Tickets are $12 for general seats and $35 for seating in the VIP area with courtesy bar and snacks.

Ride 'em, cowboy

The Steel Horses Tour 2008 will be at Fort Gordon's Barton Field on Friday and Saturday. Gates will open at 6 p.m., and the rodeo will begin at 8.

Military Appreciation Night will be that Friday. Family Fun Night will be the next night and will feature crafts and games.

Tickets for adults are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. Tickets for ages 10 and under are $5 in advance and $10 at the gate.

Museum program

Guided tours designed to show visitors how the Augusta Museum of History maintains its historical collections will take place at 1 and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sept. 27. The museum is at 560 Reynolds St.

Space is limited to 15 per session, and participation is on a first-come, first-served basis. The tour is free with the cost of regular admission.

Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for children and free for under age 5 and museum members.

Exhibit opening

An opening reception for the exhibit Words and Images of Berry Fleming will be at 6 p.m. Monday at the Augusta Headquarters Library, 902 Greene St.

The exhibit, held as part of the Westobou Festival, will showcase the Augusta author's novels and paintings.

The film Colonel Effingham's Raid will be shown at 7 p.m.

Golden Harvest Food Bank is seeking donations of canned meats and vegetables and other nonperishable food items.

Landscape of Slavery: The Plantation in American Art is on display through Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Morris Museum of Art, 1 10th St.
