MARTINEZ, Ga. - Entered into rest Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Select Specialty, Mr. David Lloyd Black, 79, husband of Patricia M. Black. David was born in Wakefield, MA on March 29, 1929. He graduated in the class of 1948 from Wakefield High School and from Wentworth Institute-Boston, Class of 1954 with a degree in Pattern Making and Machine Design. David enlisted in the 6th Co., 23rd Infantry, was a member of Massachusetts State National Guard, Civil Air Patrol. He enlisted into the U.S. Army and served 2 tours in the Korean Conflict. He was a Boy Scouts Master for many years and proud to be a Mason of the Gold Rule Lodge. He retired as a nuclear piping designer, having worked for the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. in submarine design. David was preceded in death by his parents: Bertha Hanright Black and George L. Black; his brothers: George (Junie) Black Jr., Edward E. Black and sisters: Pricilla Nicholson and Barbara Burbank. Family members in addition to his wife include his daughter: Virginia Mae Sands and husband Russ of Flat Rock, MI; sons: David Lloyd Black, Jr. and wife Cathy of San Marcos, TX, Douglas W. Black of Spring, TX; granddaughters: Sarah Jean Black and Rebecca Ann Black, both of San Marcos, TX; step-daughters: Kitty Prince and husband Philip, Christina Gralinski and husband Steve; grandson: Austin Skyler Foust; brother-in-law: Gordon L. Nicholson of Aloha, OR; sister-in-law: Betty Mouch of Sarasota, FL and many nieces and nephew. Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Georgia Chapter, PO Box 49416, Atlanta, GA 30359 or the American Heart Association, 1105 Furys Lane, Suite D., Augusta, GA 30907. Memorial service will be held Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Phillip Napier and Rev. Brad Jay officiating.
