YouTube captivates many teens

YouTube seems to be taking over the Internet. Many teens watch videos there several times a week, if not every day. It's a place where teens listen to music and watch music and TV videos.

"Watching YouTube is a good way to relieve stress," said Greg Theodosakis, a sophomore at Greenbrier High School.

He watches videos on YouTube three to four times a week.

Ivie Conlon, a sophomore at Evans High School, also is a regular YouTube visitor.

"I use it because I look for funny videos that I can share with friends," she said.

Although many teens watch YouTube, only one out of eight students I talked with said they have posted their own videos. Several said they would if they knew how.

YouTube also offers videos of moments in time that you like to watch over and over. Whether it's Michael Phelps winning a gold medal in Beijing or a great play by your favorite football team, YouTube probably has it.

"YouTube is a way for teens to see what is going on in the world around them,'' said Alex Poppell, a junior at Greenbrier High School. "For some teens, it's a way for them to view something that they won't have a chance to experience. YouTube is probably one of the greatest inventions on the Web in the 21st century."
