APPLING, Ga. - Charlie E. Bailey, 71, beloved husband of Suzanne Bailey, entered into rest Saturday, September 13, 2008 at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, September 20, 2008 in the Columbia Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Hester officiating. Interment will follow in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia at a later date. Charlie served in the United States Marine Corps for 23 years before retiring as Captain in 1973. During this time, he served our nation for two tours in Vietnam as an Intelligence Officer/Analyst and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with a Combat "V" for Meritorious Service from January 1970 - January 1971. Charlie was an active member of American Legion Post 192 in Evans for 11 years. He was co-founder of Bailey's Custom Glass and Closets of Augusta. He and Suzanne, a Registered Nurse at MCG, were married for four years and had recently united with Damascus Baptist Church of Appling. In addition to his wife, Suzanne, he is survived by a daughter, Ramona "Kay" Hagin of North Augusta; two sons, Glen (Joy) Bailey of Martinez, Donald (Theresa) Bailey of Niceville, Florida; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Roberta Rivers of Augusta, Kay Von Arx of Orlando, Florida, Louise Nodal Johnson of Tucson, Arizona; a brother, Norman Bailey of Tupelo, Mississippi and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Friday, September 19, 2008 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, Georgia 30907, 706-868- 9637.
