LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Thomas Alewine, 80, beloved husband of Peggy Alewine, entered into rest Sunday, September 15, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, September 17, 2008 in the Columbia Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Jagoditsch officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Susie Alewine and a brother, Eugene "Red" Alewine. Mr. Alewine grew up in Augusta and prior to moving to Atlanta he worked at the Augusta Chronicle and Herald. Mr. Alewine worked for many years as the production manager of The Atlanta Journal Constitution, retiring after over 30 years in 1998. He served his country for over 30 years in the US Army and the National Guard, retiring after over 30 years as Command Sergeant Major. In addition to his wife, Peggy, he is survived by his sons, Tommy (Lauren) Alewine, Loganville, Georgia, David Alewine, Flowery Branch, Georgia; daughter, Lynne (Paul) Ingram, Flowery Branch, Georgia; granddaughter, Kimberly Ingram; brothers, Roy (Ann) Alewine, Loganville, Georgia, Herbert (Georgia) Alewine, Martinez, Georgia and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1 - 3 PM prior to the service on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, Georgia, 30907, 706-868-9637.
