A man who was struck by lightning was in critical condition Sunday at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center.

Beth Frits, the spokeswoman for the burn center, said Michael Martin, 38, suffered burn injuries in the lightning strike during a middle school football game in Bonaire, Ga., on Thursday. Mr. Martin is the athletic director and coach of Warner Robins Middle School.

Three other adults treated at the burn center for injuries suffered in the lightning strike were released Saturday.

North Augusta man dies in morning crash

A North Augusta man died early Sunday as a result of a single-car accident on Country Place Court in North Augusta.

Kyle Anthony, 23, of Spring Lake Court, died about 3:37 a.m. at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, said Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

Witnesses said Mr. Anthony became angry, left a party in his 1994 four-door Honda and crashed into a tree less than a half-mile from the party site.

He was taken to MCG by Aiken County EMS workers and died about an hour after the wreck. Alcohol and excessive speed are believed to have contributed to Mr. Anthony's death, Mr. Carlton said.

Teenager arrested in neighborhood shooting

A 15-year-old boy was in custody Sunday in connection with a shooting in a south Augusta neighborhood.

At 4 p.m. police received a call concerning a shooting in the 1900 block of McClean Place, off Willis Foreman Road, said Richmond County sheriff's Investigator Glenn Rahn.

He said the 15-year-old and another person approached two unarmed men, and the 15-year-old fired a shotgun.

The victim was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital with wounds in the chest and stomach area, police said. The alleged shooter was not identified because of his age, Investigator Rahn said. The shooting might have stemmed from an argument, police said.

MCG team providing aid on gulf coast

Four members of a disaster medical assistance team sponsored by the Medical College of Georgia have joined six others dispatched to hurricane ravaged parts of the country last week, and seven others likely will head out next week, according to an MCG news release.

The team members who headed out Saturday morning for Baton Rouge, La., included two nurses, an emergency medical technician-firefighter and a paramedic. They join Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins, a physician assistant and four paramedics who were deployed Wednesday to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The team is helping evacuate and provide medical support for counties on the Gulf of Mexico near the Mexican border.

Why isn't anything on the news or in the newspaper about the wreck between the GA State Patrol and the white SUV that happened Friday night in Blythe at Hwy 88 and Church St.? Would love to know what happened.

Ushouldnthave

Maybe it was OJ running from Las Vegas because he was innocent??

Another South Augusta teen shooting someone. I hope community organizations continue to keep pressure on the police and questionable neighbors to help prevent these situations from precipitating. The only way to clean up this reputation is through community activism.

Some little pud-rat shoots an innocet(?) person, and the authorities can't release his scummy name. This law needs to change. I could care less if he's a minor. The simple fact is that he used a firearm, and I for one would like to know-just in case. Don't coddle these little xucks. Make 'em pay just like an adult.

The killings are being committed by the children at an alarming rate...Before long these children who are growing up in an atmosphere of "whatever makes me feel good" will be murdering at the tender ages of 8,9,10 years of age...The children have and are becoming more desensitized to the world around them...They are becoming a generation without a conscience and have not one ounce of compassion in their little bodies...The solution is not in more money or aid from government but family unity and morality as taught by God and Jesus Christ...

freespeech

Why don't parents know where their children are at all times? The answer is they don't care. They breed like flies and don't give a hoot about their childrens upbringing. The older thugs put the children up to doing the "killing" because the children get away with it, South Augusta is gang and crime infested.

I agree with hemi. I tried to be a little compassionate on the first kid thug since everyone wants to say awww poor wittle baby had a hard life. Well you bleeding hearts are what is causing this mess and I for oen am sick of the lil thug gangbabgers around here I don't care what the age. I'd be willing to bet money his parents have been in trouble with the law and/or he's a welfare kid. Go ahead and blast me for my comments I don't care. My morning wont be worse becuase a few people got their feelings hurt. the fact is most of these kids are coming from messed up, broke, and criminal enviroments. These people do not understand the concept of good family values and the value of life itself. And obviously somene is not watching them and raising them as they should. 15 or not, fry him!!!!!! I'm sick of this. The law should be kill or shoot anyone not in self defense....YOU DIE!!!! Immediately, not have party and join a gang in jail for 30 years... YOU DIE NOW ..NO APPEALS!!! Maybe that would deter some of this behavior. But actually punishing criminals will never happen becuase of the bleeding hearts and they dont wants to cut off public assistance to non working [filtered word] or sterilize them and criminals to not make more [filtered word]'s either.....15 yrs old.... just sickening!!

My sympathy to the Anthony family, but Thank God his selfish irresponsible actions did not cost an innocent person their life. It sad to ever lose a life, but if you want to kill youself so be it.... just don't take anyone else with you!!

Crazy Irish

People (the community, taxpayers) are tired of raising children that are made by these misfits. Not much will be done to combat this as long as there NHI. No human involved.
Look at the 12 y.o. who shot a 65 y.o. male. They held the boys trial till the mother GOT OUT OF JAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When will we adopt sterilization?

Willis-Foreman Road in the above article about the fifteen year old is in Hephzibah. This McClean Place mentioned as the young man's address, which I can't find listed anywhere, including Hephzibah, most likely is in Hephzibah as well. Is "McClean" the real name of the road or did someone make an error, there, too?

TakeAstand

I believe it is McLean Place B, it is right off willis foreman across the street from bassford drive right off a a road called Waltons farms drive. It is not shown as a subdivision even being there on my version of streets and trips. But when I tried to google it, it corrected me a pointed me to this street. Heres the link: click on the part where it says did u mean? and it will pull up the map.
