HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Mr. George Edward 'Skeet' Williams, 84, of Highyway 88, Hephzibah, entered into rest Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors this Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Glenn Blank officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Hephzibah-Vance Cemetery. Mr. Williams, son of the late Leroy and Lena Vance Williams, was a native and lifelong resident of the Augusta area. He served his country for six years in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was retired as an engineer from the Seaboard Coastline Railroad. Mr. Williams was a member of the Hephzibah Lions Club and the American Legion, Post 150, Blythe, GA and was a Boys Farm Advocate. He was a member of the Hephzibah Southern Methodist Church. In addition to his parents Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his first wife, Mattie Lee Williams and his second wife, Dorothy 'Dot' Williams; a son, George Edward Williams, Jr.; as well as his siblings, Mary Ellen Williams, Jeff Williams, Elizabeth Marks, Margaret 'Boots' Turner and Catherine Clark. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Candace and Richard Rabun of Hephzibah; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Susan Timmerman of Dallas, TX, and Barry and Gail Timmerman of Martinez; a step son and his wife, Mike and Julie Lee of Hephzibah; brother, Frank Williams of Hephzibah; a special niece and nephew, Linda and Jim Goins of Hephzibah; grandchildren and spouses, Heath and Elizabeth Shelton, Holly and Brian Clements, Heather Shelton all of Savannah, GA, and Todd Timmerman of Augusta; great grandchildren, Handley Shelton, Hollin Shelton and Max Clements of Savannah, GA; and a longtime loving companion, Pat Hickman of Hephzibah. Pallbearers will be, Jim Goins, Dave Hinner, Mike Lee, Dee Oellerich, Emmitt 'Pop' Rhodes, Tommy Rider, Frank Spinney, and Richard Youngblood. Honorary pallbearers will be, Charlie 'Coot' Burden, Charles Carswell, Pee Wee Ciccio, John Creech, E.P. Dudley, Cleve Henderson, Larry Lariscy, J.B. Shirey and Ray Wooten. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Boys Farm Inc., P.O. Box 713, Newberry, SC 29108, or to the Hephzibah Southern Methodist Church, P.O. Box 685, Hephzibah, GA 30815.
