Sept. 11 needs to be taught in schools

9-11 is a very big part of our nations history, it should be taught in our schools just as anything else that has to do with our country is, this is a part of history that must not be forgotten or hidden, we must learn from this unless we want it to happen again.

I agree. I'm not sure how this could become biased. Show the video of the planes crashing into the twin towers, name the attackers, place the blame squarely on Bin Laden, show the video of him talking about doing it, tell about his band of thugs & murderers, explain that they are Muslim extremists, then explain how the Muslin religion believes that all Non Muslims should either convert to their religion or be killed. Is that biased?

I don't know that finding Bin Laden is the top priority, maybe it is protecting the rest of the USA from anything else like 9-11 from happening. Mr. Manning's idea is good, 9-11 should be taught in school. We also need to remember that Obama stated in one of his books that he would side with the Muslims if the political winds should change in an ugly direction. Obama also wants to meet with these killers from these rogue nations. Radical muslims have one thing in mind, kill all Americans and destroy America.

I would like to respond to angiesdad but I have no idea what he is babbling about. Some punctuation, anger management and reality would seem to be in order. If in some way we mistreated blacks by being surprised by Muslim murderers hijacking air craft and crashing into the twin towers in New York and killing people of all races, then by all means, print that.

Bob, I don't understand non-biased. Some coward, Muslim fanatics hijacked airplanes and flew them into buildings, killing many innocent people of all races and colors. It cost our country dearly. There are actually GPB streaming videos of the attacks and the hijacked planes that can be shown in Georgia Public Schools. It is the individual teacher's decision as to whether or not to show the videos. They last a little over an hour. It's a good idea since even our oldest high schoolers were less than twelve years old at the time of the attacks.

As a high school government teacher, I show a 9/11 documentary every year on September 11. The reaction of the students always gets to me. Some cry, some are in shock, some get upset. The students this year were in the 3rd grade when it happened and all they remember is they got out of school early. I think it's of vital importance that they learn about it and learn to appreciate thing more. I still get shivers every time I watch it.

Angies dad, folks need to do searches on the internet, about 911 conspiracy, Fox admits fakes, the truth and lies of 9-11, 911 justice, 911 drones. Do your own homework, dont trust the govenment. This was a conspiracy. All I can say is Dont trust everything your hear and read in the NEWS today.

All roads lead to Rome. All of our problems with kids today lead to one main source. Their parents. Parents develop their basic personality very early in life and their parents are their primary role models. No one has more influence on young men than their fathers. The same is true about moms & daughters. When you look at the astounding percentage of homes that have single parents, it's amazing kids aren't in more trouble. The kid's behavior is reprehensible but that's just the symptom. Every time a child gets in trouble, that's an indictment against the parents. Don't misunderstand. Sometimes parents can do everything right and their kids still go nuts. But that probable accounts for less than 1% of these problems. I certainly made mistakes raising my kids but they are doing well in spite of my wrong doing. Unfortunately many parents are still kids themselves. Once you have a child that should be your primary focus. A man should do everything he can to bring honor to his God, his wife and his children. WE have gotten so far from this today.

Great letter! I am tired of all the PC garbage that goes around trying not to offend any Islamic Radical. Bottom line we need to state the names and identify which groups they are members of and what those groups represent.

What would we teach them!!!That the united states was attacked because we are always in every ones elses buisness, and other countries are getting tired of it!! That the president go on world wide television and call other countries 'axis of evil', and then tell everyone other countries dont like us!!!!I wonder Why? If the united states stop putting thier nose where it don;t belong, and start taking care of the united states, we would not have to teach the children about911. I agree, kids do need to be taught about 9/11 in school. Schools seem to be more concerned about not offending anyone than they are about teaching. This is nothing new though, I remember them picking and choosing what was taught when i was in school too. I dont recall every being taught about Vietnam by anyone except my dad who was a Vietnam vet. People have selective memories....they try to forget things that are hard to deal with. "Lets not mention it & maybe we can pretend it never happened" That is complete BS.......that is why this country is so full of wimps. They have never been taught to face the ugly truth about things & deal with it.

Bob, I believe the tragedy will be placed in school. Along with the revolutionary war, Civil War, First WW, Second WW, Korea, Vietnam etc. The school will probably teach it in American History. Now for some serious considerations, What is the difference between a business person in the World trade center restaurant Finishing off his third martini and the young soldier who got blown up this week fighting terrorist? The answer is none they are both classified as heros. The difference between them is about $2.75million which is the difference in the amount of compensation the family of them will get. I will let you guess which wife and family will receive about $250K, and which one will receive approximately $3Mil. I say if soldiers are loosing their lives in this war then the government ought to take better care if their families. By the way, the soldier has to pay for his insurance out of pocket! In conclusion, I watched the ceremonies on 911 and found it really odd that not a mention was made of the thousands of young soldiers who have died serving their country, and believe me they are true heros!
