Ms Young: What is even sadder is that there are many elderly with little income that buy pet food for their own consumption.
Several years ago I was shopping in Kroger. I saw an elderly lady, and in her cart was more pet food than food to feed herself. It was obvious she was on a fixed income. Her pet was probably her only companion, whose needs came first.
In this time of economic crisis, hunger will continue to worsen. I feel for our senior citizens and the children of our area. The sad fact is the price of food is going to continue to rise and many families are going to have tough decisions to make.
The next time you hear of a local food drive, please give. If you have the resources and when you are paying your monthly bills, write a check to your local food bank.
I personally support my church's food pantry, give to the food bank and feed children worldwide through Compassion International. You can make a difference and enrich the lives of the people in our community.
May God richly bless you. Hunger is not going away, but it can be addressed by caring individuals and businesses.

I support a child through Christian Children's Fund and I really do appreciate this kid. Too bad not enough programs in Haiti with all that goes on.
Where is her family and children if she has any. I would not mind help in the form of food stamps. It is the healthy loafers I disdane. To Ms. Young, We need to take care of our elderly before we take care of other countries. Foreign aid should be done away with. Maybe China and the Middle East should help since they have so much. I doubt they would lift a hand to put a pen in it to write a check.
Of course , we liberals support helping the hungry though private charities and governmnet, here and globally. Yes, to the planetary ethic of Paul Kurtz!
