Stand up for abstinence, America

  • Follow Letters

I am writing in response to the MTV VMA awards show last Sunday night. Most of you by now have seen clips and I hope you were as horrified as I was to see Russell Brand make fun of young stars who have decided to wear promise rings to show that they are going to abstain from sex until marriage. Would you make fun of someone who decides to do something positive that could save their life? As for the anti-American comments he made, he is NOT an American. And I don't care if you are a Democrat or Republican, we are ALL Americans, and we need to STOP being politically correct and start standing up for our country. You may think that either Obama or McCain represent the future of our country..but they are NOT. Your future is sitting on YOUR couch in YOUR living room (your children)..What are they watching?

Amen, sister Heather. One person at the MTV award show stood up for the Jonas Brothers and their decision to remain pure until marriage: Jordin Sparks. Thank you, Jordin. Those who laugh at God's laws are still held accountable for them and those who lead young people astray "it would be better that a large stone were hung around their neck and they were drowned in the sea," MTV is all about mocking those who have chose to do the right thing and highlighting those who don't.

I agree Heather but abstinence is hard to sell....nobody makes money from abstinence.

Amen Heather...Now if the people who actually play roles in having the babies would stop and think of them first instead of last we might stand a chance...But and I reiterate "but" God, return to morality, family unity and love of this country will have to become priority...God first all else follows...

pantherluvcik

christian you're a hypocrite always pouring God speeches out of your mouth, and in the next breathe making racist ignorant comments. Isn't God about love and humility, neither of which you exude.

patriciathomas

Responsibility is called the "r" word in most circles in this country. What you're referring to, Heather, is all about responsibility. In our current nanny culture, it receives no respect.

jsterett

Well panther, I don't see that you exude a lot of love and humility either. If God doesn't come first what does?

getalife

I read christian134's comment and did not see one racist word. It is sad that the truth is always considered racist by some people. Good letter Heather!!

Britney Spears said she was waiting until marriage too. See how long that lasted.

Thanks and a very good morning to you too panther..:-)

You totally missed the humor. Brandt was not making fun of the stars for wanting to practice abstanence. He was making fun of them because they are wearing the rings for show, and I am sure he, as many, doubt they are really abstaning from sex.

Queen4842

First off it is no ones business what they are doing with or without their personal sexual life. If they are wearing some little ring that symbolizes something then still keep out of it is not anyone's business. The minute these children realize that life is not like a soap opera and no one really cares who you are or are not sleeping with they will make the right choice on their own. Matter of fact if half the people in this country minded their own business and watched their own children then maybe abstinence would work.

We need a comprehensive sex ed course in all schools nationwide. Abstinence only isn't working. Abstinence only is what got teen pregnancy rates at its highest levels since 1991.

brimisjoshan

Abstinence does work and is not responsible for high levels of pregnancy. Get your facts straight. Plus, there is nothing humorous about putting down people trying to something good with their lives. also, schools cannot effectively do the job that parents are supposed to be doing. That is the problem with kids today. Parents don't discipline at home so the teachers spend all their time disciplining and then give our kids 3 hours of homework after 6 hours of school. The school has no business teaching our kids about sex-- that is the parents job. Since our schools are so messed up-- I homeschool and it works great. I can teach my kids a high level of academic studies in half the time the teacher does. My son was homeschooled and knocked the roof off of his SAT test and I bet my daughter will do the same.

The heck with abstinance! Our present heroine is clear proof that we should encourage teens to have sex (especially unprotected) as often as necessary till they are pregnant. Only then can we be truely Proud of them, just like Sarah says. So come on america it isn't sufficient to just buy new glasses and change your hair, get on the band wagon with her ideas and thoughts.
