Will Greenbaum's deceptions ever end?

  • Follow Letters

If I were unfortunate enough to be called a Democrat, I would be embarrassed by Richmond County Democratic Party Chairman Lowell Greenbaum. Mr. Greenbaum, over the years, has written some really outlandish letters, but the latest one takes the cake ("Choice of Sarah Palin is truly appalling," Sept. 5)!

He is a master of deception, misinformation and putting a Democratic spin on each of his letters at the expense of decency to tell the truth. The letter was from a scared Democrat who sees the election slipping away from him.

Mr. Greenbaum started the attack by referring to Sara Palin as a former beauty queen, as if that was the reason for her selection. He also referred to being a mayor of a small town, He failed to state they she is the present governor of Alaska -- with an 80-percent approval rating!

Mr. Greenbaum, in the past, has shown no shame for his false statements and aversion to the truth. It amazing me that the Richmond County Democratic Party would keep the man around.

Or could it be that he was chosen for this exact talent? If so, shame on all Democrats who voted for Mr. Greenbaum.

Ms. Palin is also being investigated for ethics violations, typically Republican, the RNC has received cease and desist letters from the band Heart for using "Barracuda" without permission, has been sued for using Jackson Browne's song "Running on Empty", and if one goes to politifact.com they will see that non-partisan verification of FACTS that the Republicans have lied much more that the Dems. It is UNTRUE that Obama replaced the American flag on his plane, he replaced an airline logo with his own, as it was a campaign trip. He didn't go to a radical Muslim school. he went to an Indonesian public school, and, as a matter of fact, he also went for two years to a Catholic, school, God forbid....I might be much more inclined to look unbiasedly at the Republicans, if they could only tell the truth........

karmakills123

keep on reading copperhead...you just might get one fact out of fifty right. : )

GACopperhead

Karma I can back up every fact in my note. Can you prove one of them wrong?

HYPOCRITES 08

Replace Greenbaum's name with Rove and Republicans with Democrats and I agree 100% with this letter.

apex24

Copperhead is an empty suit who repeats what he hears on CNN. He also may be a bleeding heart liberal from New York just like Greenbaum Y'all can go back to New York anytime you like!!!

Bizarro

I don't think it is the politicians who lie so vehemently but their die hard constituents who are like rabid dogs for their party-this goes to both parties. Even after Obama states Palin daughter's business if off limits the pirrhanas attack. All sorts of "watchdog" groups level accusations of ethics violations against both Rep and Dem. That is the game, and both "appear" guilty-which is all you need is the allegation because a political creed will then accept it as fact. Really most of the rhetoric is non-issue, because it has nothing to do with the issues. Fact is Palin is an ultraconservative and out of step even with most in her party and especially McCain. Fact is Obama does have little exerience and while "change" is wanted and needed he is failing to convince when he chooses Biden (35 years of no change) as his running mate. Seems both Prez candidate picked odd VP's to support their campaign promises.

I4PUTT

I really don't blame Lowell. He is merely doing his job. Sure he's less than honest sometimes. How else could someone make something so bad look good? I think I saw the guy he replaced on I-20 the other day. He had a tag on his car that said "Please don't tell my mother, I'm the Democratic Party Chairman, she thinks I'm a piano player in a whore house." He really should try to get his job on Wings back.

Bizarro

He is a good piano player-he's got that swing.

GACopperhead

Apex, I don't watch CNN, I don't even have CABLE, but I bet you watch Fox and listen to only Republican leaning pundits. Have you actually TRIED to determine the truth of the Republican parties statements? Let's see, he's a Muslim, went to a radical school( he also went to a Catholic school), he'll raise taxes on those over 42k a year
(actually is 200,000, and I'm for that) he'll eliminate the estate tax exemption (actually will EXPAND it). I can go on about the lies being told by the far-right. George Bush has achieved MANY things: he succeeded in making Iraq and Iran friendly, when they've been at odds for centuries, He's allowed Bin Ladin to run free for 5 years to rebuild Al-Qaeda while played in Iraq, he's allowed the mortgage industry to go to pot, sent jobs overseas, been friendly with a country (CHINA) that poisons our kid and pets andcan't even pronounce the word nuclear correctly ( it's noo-clee-ar, by the way). I can't stand by and see another 4 years of the same. McCain is no maverick.

Bizarro

Obama doesn't offer change either Copperhead. If he was more moderate and centrist he would have my vote-I voted for Bill Clinton, but had a brain hemmorrhoid and later voted for Bush his second term (mainly because I was [filtered word] at Kerry). Both candidates represent their respective political machines who will say and do anything to bring their machine to power. Obama gave some good speeches with empty promises, as we now see by his choice of Biden a thirty five year no change man. But his economic plan is just scary socialism, but finally I realized it is a ruse because no Congress will cut off their on pecker as they are amongst the top 1 percenters-no self respecting Dem or Rep would take money out of their pockets-are you kidding me. Both candidates support free trade, but Obama is always concerned about labour and environmental asides and McCain links free trade with national security.

GACopperhead

Bizarro, I agree, it's government by the government, of the government ad FOR the government. Why not write in Ron Paul, or vote for the Constitutional Party and Baldwin? I'm considering it, but am afraid a vote outside the norm is going to put McCain in. I'd rather, at this point, vote for risk, than vote for someone I KNOW will be 4 more years of Bush policies.

FallingLeaves

Thank you for an excellent and timely letter, Mr. Capes.

Bizarro

We agree again GACopperhead. I would support an Independent any day of the week to end this political stalemate of party affiliation of the two dominant parties. I am afraid to give one party power over the executive and legislative branch again-because this last time was just ridiculous and to be honest I expect the Dems will do the same. I probably won't vote but McCain caught my ear with some of his rhetoric-like quit sending foreign countries who hate us billions of dollars. But I suspect both candidates are feeding us a line of [filtered word] for a vote. I feel strongly we should all vote, but I feel strongly I hardly have a choice anymore. Too bad Bizarro for Prez is a myth-hee,hee,hee.

GACopperhead

Americans for the MOST part are sheep, Bizarro, they stick with a party line, don't try to find non-partisan facts to back up their beliefs, and are terrified if anyone challenges the norm. The media is biased, one way or the other, and most Americans who follow one party or the other won't look anywhere else. Though I didn't necessarily agree with them, I found it refreshing and admirable that people like Liebermann and Zell Miller were willing to go with what they believed right, rather than follow the party lines. They have more of my respect that either Obama or McCain

Bizarro

I agree again. Both Lieberman and Miller committed political suicide for their beliefs. True patriots and americans who stand up for what they believe. I also agree and personally find it unbelievable that people will vote a straight party ticket. I tend to vote issues which run liberal to conservative dependent on the issue. It bothers me that now religious conservatism plays a role in this. I feel like if I stood up in church and said I support a Dem policy or strategy I would be branded an Anti-Christ. That is just sick. While my personal beliefs influence my thinking (as all people) I don't think that domain should be used as a political arrow-reeks of theocracy and Islamism.

egan

When I see something with lowel Greenbaum's name on it I consider the source and forget about it.

GACopperhead

You're right, Bizarro, read some of my posts to the editorial today. The Preamble to the Declaration mentions Nature, Nature's God and Creator. These are statements that do not endorse religion in government. Veiws based on religion have no place in our government, as the writers and FOUNDERS of our country wished to ensure. Religion, ANY religion as a political qualifier, to me, is a red flag as I don't want my government, or anyone else for that matter, to tell me what I can or should believe. Religious fundamentalism is nigh on to extremism, and Jesus' teachings were opposed to the Fundamentalists of the Hebrew faith. Fundamentalism in religion shows a lack of intelligent belief i, it's kind of like those who toe a party line, no room for any other ideas. By the way, I am an Orthodox Christian, so I'm not a radical liberal theologically. I want religion kept out of the political part of my government. Just want the integrity that should come with a personal religious life.

stewartist

All the leftwings try and search for SOMETHING to brand Palin with, such as "ethics violations". What about the documents that Obama's staff are trying to keep the public from seeing regarding his dealings with William Ayers (terrorist), and what about his Buddy, the Mayor of Chicago (jailed on corruption) and his pastor J. Wright (racist and bigot). It's amazing how you guys try a brush these facts underneath your Democrappic carpets.

SisterAbdullahX_

GaCopperhead was the one that killed Tupac! Can you prove me wrong? Of course not. That's why the burden of proof is always on the accuser.

eybir

Weren't Carter, Reagan, Clinton & Bush all governors? Do they qualify?

GACopperhead

My question is, what governmental experience did Washington, Jefferson or Adams have before they led this country? The US was not founded by or governed by people with "political" experience, so, to me it's a non-factor. What the candidate stands for is the main criteria, and McCain has shown that he backed the Bush administration. That is a huge DISqualifier to me. If nothing changes, NOTHING CHANGES!

SisterAbdullahX_

AHHHH I see. So you say Sarah Palin is not qualified because she doesn't agree with you. At least you are honest about it. Well Obama stands for socialism, which is something I and others have fought wars to keep out of this country, so that is a HUGE disqualifier to me. THAT change is one we can do without.

GACopperhead

Her qualifications are; Campaign for governor: Give us the bridge, after CONGRESS takes back the money: well, no thanks anyway. If you won't fire my ex brother-in-law, I'll fire YOU! Great Qualifiers.....McCain: I'm a maverick.....yes sir Mr. Bush! If nothing changes, NOTHING CHANGES!!!

SisterAbdullahX_

Take money from people who earn it and give it to people who didn't. Sit down and chat with terrorists with no conditions. CHANGE WE CAN DO WITHOUT!

GACopperhead

By the way Sis, I don't see Obama's platform as socialist, but I DO see the Republican party as being class elitist. As an aside, has anyone considered that slowly but surely we a getting back to a ruling class? A nobility of sorts. You now see politicians who campaign and are elected because of who their parents or siblings are? Kennedy, Bush, I'd name more, but I think the point is made. It's time for term limits, and the end of career politicians. The only people who are benefiting from our government is the politicians.

SisterAbdullahX_

Obama wants to take money from those high income earners and redistribute it to the lower and middle class. THAT is textbook socialism. I seriously HOPE that if Obama is elected, that he IS inept. At least that way he can't give us the America that he promises. How do you consider it ethical to tax someone at a higher rate, simply because they have been more successful?

GACopperhead

Sis, first, Obama has made it CLEAR many times that he would not talk with terrorists. That is false Republican mantra. How about Bush talking with Putin? " I looked him in the eye and he's a decent guy" China poisons our kids, but Bush does nothing. Corporations send jobs overseas, but the government has no responsibility to unemployed workers, even though the Bush administration's policies encouraged it? Why is it that Cheney can have private meetings with the oil companies, the government give them HUGE tax breaks, and yet those oil companies spend 10 million dollars out of BILLIONS of dollars of profits? They have canceled the building of refineries, yet want more area for oil leases even though they aren't drilling or exploring for oil on the 63 MILLION acres they already are permitted to drill on!!! Don't shoot you false mantras to me, I research my opinions and can back them up with the facts. Can you?

GACopperhead

Oh, more successful? You mean those who were born into it? Obama rightly believes that those who have more have a greater financial responsibility to the country. It's a CHRISTIAN attitude.."To whom much is given, MUCH is expected." Or is your right wing just using religion and "morals" to get votes from those they can dupe?

SisterAbdullahX_

I see. I was unaware that Bush and Cheney were running for President again. I ask you....If you had 63 million acres of land that didn't have oil, would you drill it anyway. Liberal mantra works as well. Again I ask, but doubt you will answer. How is it ethical to tax someone at a higher rate, simply because they are more successful.

GACopperhead

By the way, under Obama's tax plan HE would have to pay higher taxes, but you and I would pay less. hmmmmm.....I sure wouldn't want THAT!!!!
