The Wolfpack got the best of the initial contest, beating the Bulldogs 49-28 Friday at the Brierpatch.

The teams combined for 49 points in the third quarter. Harlem pulled even at one point during the marathon, but the Bulldogs couldn't stop the Wolfpack rushing attack when it counted.

Greenbrier running backs Bryan Andrews and D.J. Tyson rushed for two touchdowns apiece as the Wolfpack picked up their first win of the season.

"Our type of offense, once it clicks, it clicks for good," said Andrews, who returned a punt 67 yards for another score.

Andrews finished with 184 yards on 14 carries, and Tyson offered plenty of support. The sophomore rushed for more than 100 yards in the absence of teammate Kendrick Wilson, who, Tyson said, suffered a concussion in the Wolfpack's season opener against Evans.

"It's good we have two strong backs," Tyson said. "I feel when Kendrick gets back, we'll be even stronger."

Greenbrier moved the ball with ease on its first drive, scoring in six plays. The Wolfpack appeared ready to pull away after pushing its lead to 14-0 on the first play of the second quarter.

But the Bulldogs responded with a touchdown drive, capped by quarterback Tyler James' 3-yard touchdown run.

The Bulldogs tied it at 14 after halftime when Pavious Harper hauled in a 66-yard touchdown pass from James after two Wolfpack defenders collided.

From there, Andrews took over. The Wolfpack senior broke free for a 27-yard touchdown run and returned a punt on Harlem's ensuing drive for another score.

"Coach gave us a great speech at halftime," Wolfpack quarterback Blake Ross said. "You can't let the little dog come back and bite you. We stuck it in the end zone."

Andrews scored again before the quarter was done, and cornerback Tab Davis returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown to seal it.

Greenbrier finished with 318 yards on the ground.

"We weren't tackling well," Harlem coach Jimmie Lewis said. "We had a good defensive scheme, but you can't win if you don't tackle."

Lewis' team finished with 320 yards rushing. Quarterbacks Zach Morris and Tyler James each had a turn running the offense.

Lewis wanted the game to serve as a tryout for the starting spot, but the decision may take more time.

"We're just trying to figure out which one will be there for the duration," he said. "To tell the truth, we're still undecided. Both looked good."

haterseverywherewego

y is u worried about him man yall kill me with the hatred the can feel free to go wherever he pleases to go u cant stop him so y worry about him........you on the outside lookin in so if u dont no wats really goin on keep yo mouth close

Outsidelookingin

With the poor English you are displaying maybe you should keep your mouth shut. Scouting an opponent is a part of coaching. Being suspended for the first two games should have also included scouting. The guy lied about only running the play one time. Get the game film and check for yourself. The last three plays Lakeside had the ball he ran the play twice. The middle play of the three he spiked the ball to stop the clock so that he could run it again on the last play. I also heard that Lakeside's copy of that game film has misteriously vanished.

The effort is there yet we still can't keep water from running up hill on defense. I've never seen a defense this bad, except for the Atlanta Falcons.

The offense did move the ball and gave Harlem a chance to win.
Both QB's looked good, maybe alternate more by sending the plays in by the QB's.

hey outside looking in...... move on with your life please. they get the game film so why worry about it. i think you need to think about your team. yall are 0-2 right????? who do you keep hearing this stuff from and why is it so imporant to you. Jody Grooms is a good man. this man has a family, let it go! move on with your life bh!

First, congrats to Greenbrier. They need this win. It will be tough in 5A this year and even tougher next year when they lose a third of their students to the new school. I agree with augustasportsfan about outside looking in obsession with Groomes. It's water under the bridge. It's over and he has to live with it, so let it go. As far as being banned from scouting, your comment doesn't make sense. He has as much right to attend any ball game his team isn't participating in as anyone else.
