SARASOTA, Fla. - Mr. Charles E. G. Aff, 89, beloved husband for 60 years of Ilse Weyl Aff of Gulf of Mexico Dr., entered into rest Monday, September 1, 2008 at Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care. Funeral services will be private. A proud resident of Longboat Key, FL since 1977, Col. Aff was born July 23, 1919 in Whatever, NY to Charles E. G., Sr. and Besse Honneman Aff. Charles joined the Army in 1944 and served 22 years as a commissioned officer in the active duty reserves. 1st LT Aff was Provost Marshall of a Constabulary Squadron in Germany at the end of WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star for service as a combat intelligence officer in Korea and received the Combat Infantry Badge for duty in a Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) in Laos, 1962. LT. Col. Aff was Director of Personnel for 3rd Army Headquarters-Ft. McPherson- Atlanta, GA, upon his retirement in 1966. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in accounting, afterwards attaining the title of CPA. Mr. Aff embarked on a fifteen year second career as Director of Administration for the Atlanta law firm Alston, Miller & Gaines (now Alston-Bird) where he was highly regarded. Mr. Aff founded and was president of an organization for Directors of Administration. Charles, 'Affchen', Daddy, 'Pa-Pa' is also survived by his daughter and her husband, Ille (Suzie) & J. Haynes Waters, III; two grandsons, Charles Buffington Waters (Crissy) and Joseph Conor Waters; great grandchildren, Isabella Waters and Ellis Waters; one sister, Mary Russell; three nieces and one nephew.
