Horry County police arrested one man and are searching for another in boat crash that killed an Aiken teenager Saturday night on the Intracoastal Waterway.
Brandon Scott McDevitt, 22, of Myrtle Beach, is in jail and authorities are still looking for 28-year-old Nicholas Macklen, according to Lt. Robert McCullough with the state Department of Natural Resources.
The two men are suspected of crashing Mr. Macklen's Master Craft boat into a Sea Ray boat carrying four passengers while making a getaway from a home burglary. Both vessels sank about 8:30 p.m., just below the state Highway 544 bridge, Lt. McCullough said.
"The two suspects in the Master Craft swam to the bank and fled the scene," he said.
Police suspect the crash occurred as the two men were fleeing from a home on Folly Road where they stole a 32-inch television, Myrtle Beach-area news agencies reported.
The crash killed 13-year-old Shayne Odermatt, a pupil at Schofield Middle School in Aiken, and injured three family members, who were taken to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
The coroner's office will release a cause of death this week, Assistant Coroner Tamara Willard said Sunday.
Lt. McCullough said it will "take a while to piece together what happened" and to determine how fast the suspects' vessel was traveling. Both boats have been recovered.

Boat as getaway vehicle? Not even cigarette boat? For a 32 inch tv? Gads, how sad to die at the hands of such boobs.
It sounds as it may have been dark going down the waterway at 8:30pm. Socastee is not known for its intellectual scholars...
Cap them both. They took an innocent life, over a television. I don't want to feed or clothe their sorry asses, and I sure as hell do not want them back in society. They both need to take a dirt nap.

These guys are disgusting! Someone should take them 5 miles out into the ocean & throw them overboard & leave them for the sharks!
