MARTINEZ, Ga. - Mary G. Santangelo, 82, wife of the late Francis Alfred Santangelo, died Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Doctors Hospital. Mrs. Santangelo was born in Little Rock, AR and as a military wife, lived several years in Europe and Japan before relocating to Georgia in 1974, she was employed at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, GA as an administrative supervisor until her retirement. She was a member of Forest Hills Golf Club. She was an honor student and earned a scholarship to Little Rock Jr. College and passed the college-level entrance exam for the U.S. Civil Service from which she retired in 1988. Mrs. Santangelo held various administrative positions for the U.S. Civil Service in the U.S.A. and overseas with positions with the National Science Foundation, U.S. Army Military Police, Health Care, as well as IBM Intelligence Data Handling and ITEK Corporation (Classified Defense Equipment Manufacturing. She supported U.S. Army Volunteer projects, collection and donations to the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Golden Harvest Food Bank and the Augusta Rescue Mission. Mrs. Santangelo was an avid golfer until injuries in 2003 halted her golf activities. She was very involved for years with CSRA Ladies Golf Association activities and a member of the Episcopal Church and their charitable drives. Mrs. Santangelo was a voracious reader and was interested in local and national government polices and news. She always voted. She is survived by a son: Francis A. Santangelo, Mt. Pleasant, SC; a daughter: Kathryn Burton, Tucson, AZ; 3 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren. The family will have private services in Tucson, AZ.
