Sen. Hillary Clinton makes me proud

  • Follow Letters

I confess. I am a political junkie. Tuesday night's Democratic convention had me glued to the TV like a football fan on Super Bowl Sunday. With bated breath, I waited for her -- and I was not disappointed.

I have been a Hillary Clinton admirer for years, a card-carrying member of the Democratic Party, a proud Southerner and a not-so-closeted feminist. I value justice, hope, grace, perseverance, honesty and second chances. I am aware the path that I often stroll down is paved with the (often-trampled) hopes and dreams and hard work of another generation.

While Hillary is far from aged, she is part of the generation that carved the way that lets me voice such comments as this. The generations and other dichotomies divide us more than they unite us. But Tuesday night, I believed that we are better together -- all of us: young, old, male, female, gay, straight, rich, poor, Yankee, Southerner, white, black, brown or otherwise. I laughed and cried -- during a DNC speech! I was excited and affirmed, yet I still carry an ounce of grief that Hillary Clinton will not be our next president.

In the hours that have passed since one of the greatest speeches I ever witnessed, I find myself clothed in something close to patriotism, something close to hope, something that renews my faith that my generation will create a path that our children will be proud of -- a path of unity, a path of equality, a path of freedom, and a path lined with equal pay for equal work, universal health care, and secure retirement.

I thank Sen. Clinton for speaking directly, regally and respectfully to each of us. We know that losing is difficult -- for her and for those of us who believe in her leadership. However, her professionalism and focus remind us that she will lead from the Senate as powerfully as she led from the campaign trail.

Senator Clinton makes me proud as well. So does Senator Obama. I'm a proud Democrat. Proud of the first major party that elected a black man to be the Presidential nominee and nearly elected the first woman. Proud that Democrats were the first major party to nominate a woman to be VP. Proud that when you look at the Democrat's convention the attendees look like all of America. You can't say that about the other party. Obama gets my vote. He was not my first choice but I will proudly vote for him and send him money. Had Clinton won, I would have proudly done the same.

Senator Clinton is a strong woman and a fierce politician. Her penchant for radical socialism and her cape of megalomania don't seem to bother her party, but her gender does. Were she more of a man, she'd be dealing with the Republican nominee for president instead of Obama. Her speech made it clear that she'd step back and let the party choice make his run, but you can bet come November she'll not hesitate to say "I told you so" every chance she gets. The danger of Hillary isn't past, she'll be the Democratic candidate for president in '12. Won't that be something if it's a race between Hillary and Palin?

CH

Hey Steph...I'm proud too, proud that I voted against Hitlary and against her lying, scumbag husband. This is a woman who claimed to represent womens' interests. But, when the truth about Bill was revealed, does she do the honorable thing and leave his sorry butt? No, she stays and blames everything on Republicans. And, of course, let us not forget her sniper story in Kosovo. What a brave woman! The fact that Democrats saw her as a potential president tells me that substance matters very little to them. Come on liberals...hit me with your best shot. Be sure to take your blinders off first.

YEAH RIGHT and my poodle has better ethics than Hiltery and my poodle stands for something! I am not a liberal but it looked like you were asking for something like this ..... yeah I know you wanted someone to speak out against what you wrote , I can`t think of an argument !

Everyone that I talk to is very excited about the possibility of having new leadership in Washington after been without any for the past eight years. A new day is dawning. Fox news was speechless after Obama's laid out his program. They twisted and turned trying to find criticism. We all need to work hard to get out the vote for Obama so he will be sworn in in Jan.
I am as proud as the Augusta Chronicle. We might not see this again in our lifetime afther the next 8 years. We can leave this earth knowing, we saw it in our life time and we can tell our children we were part of it. We can make amends for the times we stood silent and watched so much injustices take place in our great nation. But, even better than that - Obama seems to be the best choice. As always, have a blessed day and be part of history.

CH

Jack234, please send me a postcard from Dreamworld. You obviously don't live in the real world. Obama the best choice? I'd laugh if the stakes weren't so high. And, in case you missed it, we haven't had another attack on American soil in 7 years. Is it possible that this administration might be doing something right or is that the work of Obama too? He'd sit down and chat with those vowed to destroy us. Yeah, that's the guy I want in the president's seat. What a joke. As far as Fox's coverage, it is more balanced than those liberal propaganda stages known as ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN.

I don't know how she did it but she did. Senator Hillary Clinton was supposed to be unstoppable in this nomination. She was supposed to be one half of the most powerful family in Democrat politics. Nobody could beat her. Not even a Republican. She had her husband former President Bill Clinton, the Democrat hero on her side. Yet she failed miserably. She lost to an inexperienced, unknown new comer who had absolutely nothing in the way of national exposure. And he was black, which was thought to be a major problem to overcome. She fell flat on her face and now she's every one's hero. I don't get it.

ibewalkingtomemphis

Steaphanie, I thought it was a pretty good speech too--especially in light of her trying to talk with all that CROW in her mouth!

ZenoElia

Hey CH, while our soldiers are dying overseas slowly by this infamous war on terrorists, we leave our own soil open to future attacks. What will happen to us while they are so many miles away if another attack should occur, one say, greater in magnitude than the prior one? What then? Who will defend us if they are all away from home. Heck we can't even get the Coast Guard to stop drug traffickers or the National Guard to help rebuild cities devastated by natural disasters. What use will they be against armed invaders?

ZenoElia

Bush wears a cloak of deception and hides behind the faithful to prevent them from seeing his true nature. "There is a generation whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth and the needy from among men." Is that this generation? Time will only tell. Do we have the time to watch and wait? Eight is enough!

ibewalkingtomemphis

Zeno, don't you have some grass to cut??? Your babblings are bordering on the boorish and boring!

I4PUTT

Or perhaps some grass to watch grow....You are just so far off base, man. Take a pill.

I4PUTT

Most likey, Bush will not be reelected next time. Although he does have the most experience.

cyou299

The only attacks on US soil came during the Republican watch. If you're giving them credit for 7 years of no more attacks, then you have to give them blame for the only attacks since Pearl Harbor. We didn't have attacks before Bush.

ZenoElia

Cut my grass yesterday. Watching it grow would be a waste of time. I'd rather feed the frenzy and watch ya'll come up with inept answers to real questions. That's right. When you can't formulate an intelligent response attack the person by indicating he's crazy. Ya'll keep buying the kool-aid from those govt pushers and you'll all be as crazy as you think I am.

ZenoElia

299- War is a money machine for the rich. Roosevelt knew this and so did Bush-Cheney. Each admin had their reasons for starting their wars. But to avoid blame, they just sat by and let it happen so they could start up that old money machine. Now this admin will retire from public service rich while everything else about our great country has gone to hell in a handbag. Yay team!

patriciathomas

cyou299, I guess you don't remember the attacks during the Clinton years? At the trade towers? Were you reading news papers then or just watching CNN. If it was the latter, I could see why this is news to you

patriciathomas

Zeno, no one thinks you're crazier then you claim to be with your posts.

ZenoElia

PT, sorry, I never claimed to be crazy. But I do see the spirit behind the acts of men who are evil. If seeing truth makes me crazy, then so be it. I guess that's what is meant by the world believing the lies they are told by officials, be it govt, media or expert common taters. Truth is always clear, never fuzzy or opaque. However, to the blind, everything is hidden. Kinda like stumpin' yer toe in a dark room. No light, no see.

patriciathomas

Zeno, what I meant was your interpretation of the truth is what marks you and no one needs to add to what you say to define who you are. verstehen sie

ZenoElia

Ich verstan PT, but no one believes me. That's what is troubling about you. You strike me as well informed, though ultra conservative in your views. So I can only presume you are somewhat close-minded to anything that resembles a liberal viewpoint. I'm not sure about this but I think Jesus was considered a radical and liberal. He opposed his own townspeople and left them to themselves. He opposed the world leaders and the local politicians and religious leaders. He did ungodly things like eating with prostitutes and tax collectors, but he also hobnobbed with the wealthy like Lazarus. He broke the sabbath by performing miracles and was considered dangerous to society for voicing his views. He was a rabble-rouser. He stirred the pot deep and often and it cost him his life. I'm sure that this is what is happening to anyone who opposes the current powers-that-be, regardless of any party affiliations or memberships in exclusive clubs. They are considered trouble-makers for not following the status quo. I'm proud to serve in His army, but I won't serve in today's army. I'm already all I can be because of Christ.

patriciathomas

I'm with you on your last post Zeno. The liberal Jesus represented was the dictionary definition of liberal and not the code word liberal the left uses, like "progressive" and "alternative"and "diversified". I'm not certain how your post relates to any of the comments made here today, though.

FallingLeaves

I'm proud of Mrs. Palin. She's a real woman.

ZenoElia

PT, I'm almost speechless. We agreed. WOW. I'm a progressive thinker. I act conservatively on many things. I am liberal with anything I have since I really don't own anything, I am just the steward. I don't support alternative lifestyles since scripture says homosexuality is nature turned against itself. Those folks will reap what they sow. As for diversification, I think I am plenty diversified. I am over-educated at no gain except to understand maybe more than most about a lot of things going on in the world today. I don't trust statistics since they are highly manipulative and extremely arguable. Not reliable as most want us to think. Internet data is not as reliable as many would try to convince us of, but I sometimes get a quick fix to use in my posts. I don't like the media and don't believe any of their hype. I make my judgments based on faith and what the Word teaches. That may be why I come across as manic or fanatical to so many. As for relevance, I can only say that all our choices are relevant because they have consequences. If placing my thoughts on line for others helps another make a good choice, then it is relevant.

eybir

Senator Clinton must make all those pro-partial-birth-abortionists proud.

ZenoElia

My point is just this: If anyone finds my statements to be off topic, then it is because they have knowledge without wisdom or understanding. Knowledge makes one conceited unless it is tempered with love. Love builds us up. I work construction because it is a building action. I write because I build ideas with words. I work the soil because I can rely on it to be productive and build something good for all who share in its yield. Building is what I do. But there are times when I try to tear down the false logic not scripturally based, tearing down sometimes precedes building up. I have to stir the dirt to plant and I have to demolish strongholds set up in the minds of the weak in order to present an argument that will build up another person. Arguing from the world's POV serves no purpose. That is the enemy's realm and tactic used for deception. I have a spiritual responsibility to speak love and peace and to fertilize the minds of the misled and misinformed. I can do nothing less than this.

patriciathomas

Yeah Zeno, I guess all of that could be true, or you might just need to pay more attention to your lithium.
