RICHMOND ACADEMY 26, WESTSIDE 18

PLAY OF THE GAME: Richmond Academy junior quarterback Marquan Medlock 's 58-yard scoring strike down the sideline to junior Jerrell Anderson 3:51 before halftime stole Westside's momentum and pulled the Musketeers within 18-16.

WHY RICHMOND ACADEMY WON: The Musketeers' big-play weapons accounted for two touchdowns and their defense held Westside to 9 yards of offense in the second half.

The victory snapped their 17-game losing streak and was the first win over Westside since 1999.

WHY WESTSIDE LOST: The Patriots' running attack deserted them in the second half and their skill players also suffered from heat-related cramps.

STAR OF THE GAME: Medlock led the come-from-behind victory, passing for 201 yards and two touchdowns.

QUOTE: "Our coaching staff came up with a game plan and we stuck to it even when we got behind early. Our kids have bought into the system and they believe, and when you're able to pull one out like this, you believe in what you're doing even more." -- Richmond Academy head coach Chris Hughes

NEXT: Richmond Academy plays host to Butler; Westside travels to Cross Creek. Both games are at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

-- Joey Warren

I really don't care for

I really don't care for football much, but I was thrilled to attend the ARC/Westside game and see the boys pour their hearts and souls into a much-needed win. Chris Hughes is a good man and I hope his entire team will rally around him this year.
