AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mary Elizabeth Rukes, 85, entered into rest Monday, August 25, 2008 at a local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Dane Wagner officiating. Mrs. Rukes was a retired cosmetologist and had lived in Augusta since 1981. She was a life member of the Vestavia Club and the B.P.O.E. Auxillary. She is survived by her daughter, Diane (Bill) Whittle Bland, Augusta; son, Michael Glenn (Connie) Rukes, Augusta; grandchildren, Bradley William (Janine) Bland, Matawan, N.J., Pamela Rukes (Jon) Scrum, Grace Bland (David, III) Lollar and Kelly Rukes (Wesley) Schlein, all of Augusta; great-grandchildren, Cora Lollar, Tylor Scrum, Jack Bland, Julianna Marie Bland, and David H. Lollar IV; brother-in-law, Merle E. Rukes, Crown Point, Ind.; brother, Joseph F. (Margaret) Marte, Jr., West Palm Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jud C. Hickey Center for Alzheimer's Care, 1901 Central Avenue, Augusta GA, 30901 or to St. Judes Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Georgia.
