GREENSBORO, N.C. - Kermit G. Phillips, II went peacefully to be with God on August 25th. He was born June 25, 1934, to the late K.G. and Lillian Phillips of Greensboro, NC. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Kermit's life on Saturday, August 30th at 11:00 a.m. in Phillips Chapel at Canterbury School in Greensboro, NC, followed by a luncheon at the school with burial at 1:30 PM at Forest Lawn Cemetery. His successes were many and his friends were countless. Early in his career, Mr. Phillips began a life long interest in real estate and he developed residential and commercial property all over the southeast as founder and president of Phillips Management Group in Greensboro and as co-founder of ATC Development Corporation in Augusta, GA. Mr. Phillips was involved with many other business ventures both locally and throughout the south. One of his passions was travel, and with his wife, Monica, they enjoyed exploring wonders all over the world. Mr. Phillips was instrumental in the design and building of Phillips Chapel at Canterbury School in Greensboro, NC, which was named in his honor. Other beneficiaries of his philanthropic gifts were Woodberry Forest School in Woodberry Forest, VA, Saint Mary's School in Raleigh, NC and the Ocean Reef Medical Foundation in Key Largo, FL. He also supported the Kermit Glenn Phillips, II Chair of Cardiology for the Prevention and Treatment of Heart Disease at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Kermit especially loved his family and friends and will be deeply missed by them all. He is survived by his loving wife, Monica Dolata Phillips, his children: Kert Phillips and Keith Phillips of Greensboro; his step-children: Randy Sanger and wife, Sherri; Renee Redman and husband, Mike; Rick Sanger and wife Vicki, all residents of Wisconsin, and Robert Sanger and wife, Jennifer, of Chicago. His grandchildren were also a great joy in his life: Kevin and Katherine Phillips, Jordain Sanger, Austin Sanger, Alexander Redman, Brock Sanger, Brandon Sanger, Lillian Sanger, Jack Redman and Luke Sanger. Kermit also is survived by his brother, Jim and wife, Cindy of Charlotte, NC and sister, Anne Gilchrist and husband, Peter of Huntersville, NC. He was predeceased by his former wife, Jeanette "Cookie" Smith. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Canterbury School, 5400 Old Lake Jeanette Road, Greensboro, NC 27455.
