Taxing us to prosperity is untenable

  • Follow Letters

It is very difficult for me to understand how government can and will raise taxes to try to balance out budgets and expenses that are created by overspending and misappropriation of funds. People here are already taxed to the limit and are just not going to stand still for more tax hikes.

Winston Churchill said, "I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself out by the handle." This is probably the best describing notion that I have ever heard concerning constant tax hikes.

This is just a vicious circle that will continue unless government can realize that if they keep raising taxes, sooner or later there is not going to be any money left to be paid. Then they will really be in trouble!

Seems simple enough to me. Well written Steve Reeves. (loved your Hercules movies)

Good point, Steve. Unfortunately, Prince Obama and his supporters don't share your view. None of them seem to realize that if we keep raising taxes, especially on the wealthy, you know, the ones who own or run corporations that employ millions, that they will take their money and industry and move to a country that will appreciate both. And believe me, they will do just that! And, please somebody, show me a government program that actually works efficiently! Social Security is one example of government that promises one thing and does just the opposite. Voluntary? Right.

When a company has budget problems they normally begin to look into the details of what is spent and work to reduce their spending. I am sure there are plenty of do-nothing employees with the city and county if eliminated, would reduce the cost of government. Look at the procurement department that has cost the taxpayers extra millions of dollars by taking the most expensive proposals.

Haliburton and the war is bankruptying America. Fraud and abuse for 8 years. Time for you to vote for change, wouldn't you think?

What does government and a privately held company have in common? Comparing how the two operate makes no sense.

Jack234, I doubt seriously that Hallilburton and the war will amount to nothing when compare to the taxes that Obama would impose were he (God forbid) be elected. Run evenmoore of ouor corporations/jobs out of the US. Yeah, elect Obama!

Unfortunately too many of our politicians have bankrupt themselves, bankrupt their businesses, and are now in the process of bankrupting the Country. I wonder what part of 'budgeting' and 'fiscal responsibility' they don't understand?

Signal Always

The part about budgeting and fiscal responsibility.
