Sen. Barack Obama is emulating John F. Kennedy's campaign for the White House. His tactics appear to be working.
Obama is charming many young folks into the Democratic Party much like JFK did to me those many years ago. The major flaw in Obama's approach is that JFK would not have spent two seconds listening to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's anti-American rhetoric that somehow charmed Obama for 20 years.
Obama's claim to have "grown up learning true American values in Kansas" seems to have been flushed into Lake Michigan in Chicago by the Rev. Wright. The Rev. Wright issue is not forgotten -- certainly not by this voter.
C. David Cowfer, Aiken, S.C.
I, personally, find it difficult to equate "Rev." Wright with JFK's words of "Ask not what your country can do for you; Ask what you can do for your country"...Doesn't seem to come off with the same zeal of patriotism when ones seeks to compare it with the historical words of Obama's mentor racist little buddy Wright " damn America"...Loses that warm and tingly feeling doesn't it?
That's funny. With all the filth and moral decay that is now commonplace in this country, a preacher who points that the fact that God IS displeased with us is viewed as wrong. While I may not agree with with Wright's delivery, he is correct to point out how we are doing ourselves in as a nation. So let's attack all messengers who point out our faults and wrongdoings, that will ensure we are heading in the right direction. Won't it?
I think that since religious leaders have become so involved in politics, churches should be taxed just like businesses. After all doesn't it say the separation of church and state?
When that messenger is by all accounts a radical racists piece of slime I will most assuredly attack the messenger...
Don't forget Hagee either.
According to a New York Times magazine interview this week, John McCain sought out the endorsement of Hagee: Quote Hagee, "It's true that [John] McCain's campaign sought my endorsement."
John McCain, in response to condemnation by Nancy Pelosi yesterday, has made a stronger denunciation of Hagee's anti-Catholic statements:
"We've had a dignified campaign, and I repudiate any comments that are made, including Pastor Hagee's, if they are anti-Catholic or offensive to Catholics," McCain said.
However, McCain has still not rejected the support of Hagee himself, and has said nothing about Hagee's claims that American foreign policy towards Palestine is causing God to attack the United States with terrorists.
Calling Pastor John Hagee a "bigot," the conservative Catholic League is calling for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to denounce/renounce/reject his endorsement Wednesday.
How Godly is that? The Tongue is an unruly evil.
Bad things and good things happen to do-gooders & bad-doers. Neither is evidence that God is punishing or rewarding either. eg, Job. He maketh the rain to fall on the just and the unjust alike.
Last time I looked, I didn't see Wright nor Hagee's name on the presidential ballot. Cowfer seems to be the only only hanging on. We live in the present, not the past. Mrs. Obama hit a homerun last night that put everyone's mind at ease. I guess Cowfer forgot to watch or he just has a close mind or little mind. We are so excited about Mrs. Obama speech. There is more to come. Not a dull moment at the DNC. Now, Cowfer, and everyone else have a blessed day and hug someone that don't look like you. 8 years of doom is coming to an end. We should be glad for the new day on the horizon.
McCain didn't sit in the church of hagee for 20 years, so there's a big difference. People told barack hussein obama-carter to join the church of wright (wrong) mainly for political reasons and he remained, listening to the their racial and negative preaching.
I don't care for Mrs.Obama, so my mind isn't at ease. I know that she will be saying whatever the DNC tells her to say at this point or she will ruin here husbands chance. I agree, that if I didn't like some one's beliefs, I certainly wouldn't listen to it for 20 years and consider him my mentor...
Has anyone taken the time to think about what it means to be a mentor? Who says every conversation Obama had with Rev. Wright was about religion and country? Is it so hard to believe that he could have taught him how to be a better man, husband, father, or friend? I know for a fact that as a mentor you do not have to bestow all of your beliefs on your 'mentee'. As an adult, Obama has the right and choice to absorb the words he choose and ignore others.
Christian...do you feel the same way about Pat Robertson who said Katrina was Gods punishment for abortion? He was saying that God had damned America. Or Hal Lindsey of Trinity Broadcast who said the same thing? Or Christian radio broadcaster Charles Colson who said the same thing? Two days after 9/11 Jerry Falwell proclaimed that God allowed 9/11 to happen because of "the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians", he was saying that God had damned America. The Columbia Christians for Life also said the same thing. My point is, so many Christian leaders have said that 9/11 and Katrina were examples of God "damning" America, yet when Rev. Wright, a black minister, says it you call him an anti-American black radical. Of course I think Rev. Wright is vile for his comments..the difference? I think the other comments were just as vile and just as radical, yet we didn't hear much ado from the right when they said God had damned America. Dare I say it again? The hypocrisy on the right is astounding!
Baracko cut the apron strings way too late for any thinking person to believe he will not be influenced by the anti-American Wright. If Wright doesn't like America then he should go somewhere else.
Again I ask, are Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Charles Colson, Hal Lindsey, Anne Graham Lotz (Billy Graham's daughter), etc, etc, etc Anti-American? They all claimed God had damned America with Katrina or 9/11 or both. Are they Anti American? Please answer this, and if your answer is no, please explain. I am saying they are all vile and hateful for making these statements. I am not taking up for Rev. Wright, I also think he is vile, but what makes him any different than them? Please explain?
Barack was not present when Wright preached that. This is a pretty thin issue to hang your hat on.
Can anyof you prove the statements made by Rev. Wright to be wrong whether you agree with them or not. The were not vile, racist or anti-american. They were made b/c of his love for this country. When your child does something wrong, you call them on it and demand that they correct your behavior. Does that mean your are anti-your children, no, it means you love them and you want them to stop the destructive behavior before it leads to their destruction.
Maybe JFK would not have spent 2 minutes in Wright's church, maybe Barack Obama would not have 2 minutes in Marylin Monroe's house. It kills me how we like to point out the bad things anout the people we don't like and ignore the wrong done by the people we love.
This whole ordeal makes me sick to my stomach because most people don't/won't see what's really going on. A man (Rev. Wright) was vilified b/c the powers that be are afraid that if Obama is elected they will have to live off of 15mil instead of 20mil. Obama represents that change and people are afriad.
ColdBeer, to tax Wright's church would be a wind fall. After all, they built him a multimillion dollar house and gave him a $10M line of credit.
What change is the new Messiah going to bring???
And how do you leftists support Pilosi's sattempt to say that the Catholic Church does not believe that a baby is human at conception? So what if Hagee endorsed McCain. Seems he believes in making sure Israel is protected from the likes of Ahmadeenajad and is a Christian at that.
Jack234, Michelle, my belle, doesn't seem to know certain facts such as Hawaii is in the Pacific Ocean, not the wester part of the continent, that women were allowed to vote in the early 1900s, etc. She is really stupid for a supposed educated person, knd of lik Pilosi who doesn't know that natural gas is a casrbon fuel..
America get ready because Obama will "WIN" in november. Most of you must work for FOXNEWS.Christian134 have you ever met Rev Wright (no) why are you being such a "POOH" just keep it too yourself.God Bless America, and maybe the chickens won't come home.
Sounds like Backpac is living in denial along with the rest of the Lib faithful who believe that white America is buying this charlatans line. He's selling his ideas like JFK and wants the conservative base to think he's Ronald Reagan reborn. His affiliations are questionable and his choices are unlike any candidate who aspires to be President.
He made his last mistake when he chose Biden. Hillary would have most likely sealed the deal but his lady made sure she told the world who wears the pants in that family. This puppet of the dems is going down come November and based on his ego he's going to hit bottom hard.
I have listen to rev wright speeches. Can somebody tell me what he said that was supposed to be unamerican or racist. Or is it because its coming from a black man. That you have a problem with it. Because god would damned alot of the negative stuff that happens in america.
I'm still waiting........
nyaar, that's god's call, not rev. wright.hje said plenty that he needs to apologize and be held accountable for.
he is a common puke, nothing more.being black is just his problem, evidently.
Have no use for anyone who claims to be a messenger from God and then stand up for one race of people over another...I do not support the Wrights, Falwells, Jim Jones or anyone else for that matter that puts their agendas before God and Jesus Christ's laws...As far as Billy Graham I do like him but that is neither here nor there what does matter is my relationship with Jesus Christ as my Lord and my Savior...That is what is set in stone, so to speak, not some mortal flesh and blood person with whom I have never once come in contact with...The only other loyalty I have would be to my family, friends and to this country...To all else go jump off a bridge and take Obama with you...Oh here's your life preserver...:-)
Chuck2076...I don't believe that any act of terrorism or natural disaster is Gods punishment. If so, why did he punish over 200,000 people in Indonesia with the Tsunami? Please tell me what they did? Why would he allow innocent children to also be punished? I just don't buy into this mean, hateful, vengeful, bigoted, racist God that the religious right portrays Him to be. So ANYONE saying God "damned" America with Katrina, a natural disaster, or especially 9/11, a terrorist act, is vile to me. It lays the blame at Gods feet, not the terrorists, and that's just plain wrong! And remember, the reason Osama bin Laden gave for attacking America was because he believed we had turned against God (Allah), His bible, the Qur'an, told him "to exalt the people who obey Him and humiliate those who disobey Him." Different religious fundamentalists...same message. God damns those who turn against Him.
Sen. Barack Obama's pastor says blacks should not sing "God Bless America" but "God damn America." "We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.
"We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost," he told his congregation.
Does any normal person who loves this Country need to hear more of this bigots garbage, is anything wrong with what he said? Are you for real....
Christian..how can you say this, "As far as Billy Graham I do like him but that is neither here nor there what does matter is my relationship with Jesus Christ as my Lord and my Savior...That is what is set in stone, so to speak, not some mortal flesh and blood person ." and then condemn Obama because of what his pastor said? As we all know he HAS condemned Wright for what he said and also feels that it doesn't matter because what does matter is his own relationship with Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior?
Ken...is this true or not? ""We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye,"? Did our government not help and give aid and weapons to Iraq in their war against Iran? Did our government not turn a blind eye to apartheid for years and years until the late 80's? Wright believes those actions made God turn away from America... please tell me how Wrights statements are any different than Falwell, Robertson, Colsons...etc.
