Former Aiken resident Brooke Lundy will reprise her role of country singer Patsy Cline in Always Patsy Cline at the University of South Carolina Aiken's Etherredge Center.

"We did this in August 2004 for one performance. They kept wanting to do it again, and I was willing to do it," said Ms. Lundy, who now lives in New York City, where she recently finished an 18-month run with the off-Broadway production of Birdy's Bachelorette Party.

An Aiken native who attended South Aiken High School, Ms. Lundy, 31, moved to Los Angeles before graduating from high school. She returned to Aiken for a few years and still has a cell phone with an 803 area code.

A Patsy Cline fan, Ms. Lundy has found a group of people in New York City who appreciate country music.

"I was actually surprised to find how many people play country music. I've been able to hook up with them," she said.

She's part of a group at an East Village club called Newville, which is a fusion of New York and Nashville, she said.

Ms. Lundy said she will enjoy reprising the role of Ms. Cline because her music has a quality to it that some of today's overnight sensations lack.

"She was only six or seven years in the spotlight, but it proves her talent," she said.

Ms. Cline died in a plane crash in 1963.

Ms. Lundy said the quality of Ms. Cline's voice set her apart."I love the way she approached notes. It was smooth and bold. She had strong, belty notes," she said.

Always Patsy Cline is the story of a chance meeting in 1961 at a Houston honky-tonk between Ms. Cline and a fan, Louise Seeger. Their friendship grew over the years through letters and phone calls. Ms. Seeger is played by Dewey Scott-Wiley.

Always Patsy Cline will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, at the Etherredge Center.

Tickets are $20 for the public, $15 for senior citizens and USC Aiken faculty and staff and $7 for USC Aiken students. For more information, call the Etherredge Center box office at (803) 641-3305.
