UNION CITY, Ga. - Lucile Barnard Westbrook, age 96, of Christian City in Union City, Georgia (formerly of Augusta, Ga.) passed away August 21, 2008. She was born in Iradell County, North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Barnard and Daisy Campbell Barnard; sisters, Ethel Brewer, Nella Barnard and Helen Bell; brothers, William Barnard, Royal Barnard, and son, David Curtis Westbrook. She is survived by a brother, McDonald Barnard of Boone, N. C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Ramona and Jim Evans of Fayetteville, Ga.; granddaughters, Jessica (Jeff) Selander of Cumming, Ga., Jennifer (Brian) Preston of Locust Grove, Ga., Stacey (Paul) Westbrook of Archdale, N.C.; grandson, Scott (Grismar) Westbrook of Prescott, Arizona; daughter-in-law, Debbie Westbrook of Sophia, N.C.; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She resided in Augusta, Ga., for some 68 years. She is a charter member of Fleming Baptist Church on Peach Orchard Road in Augusta. She owned and operated a beauty shop. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and reading. She traveled throughout the United States, Hawaii, Germany and China. When she was 90, she took a cruise to the Western Caribbean with all of her family and a trip to France with her granddaughter, Jessica and her husband, Jeff Selander, her brother, Mac Barnard, and her daughter and son-in-law, Ramona and Jim Evans. (The most memorable part of that trip was to see Normandy.) Funeral services will be Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at the Graveside, Grassy Knob Baptist Church Cemetery in Union Grove, North Carolina.
