Columbia County OKs two rezoning requests
Columbia County planning commissioners approved two rezoning requests Thursday that will allow for a new shopping center on Furys Ferry Road and a senior citizens' community on Evans to Locks Road.
About three acres on Furys Ferry Road was rezoned to neighborhood commercial, which limits the anchor store in the shopping center to no more than 35,000 square feet.
The property owner, Andrew Allgood, said he hopes to attract such tenants as a deli, beauty salon or brokerage firm to the retail center.
The retirement community might be built on 16 acres as part of a planned unit development. Three acres of the property facing Furys Ferry Road will keep a neighborhood commercial zoning. The community would include three four-story apartment buildings, independent living facilities and a memory care unit.

Attorneys in two Georgia federal court districts took months before charging Mr. Bell this month in the Oconee County case and combining it with the others.
He'll be sentenced for all of the crimes together at a later hearing, U.S. Attorney Brian McEvoy said.
Mr. Bell, who's from Florida, was living in Greensboro at the time of the December robberies.

Memory Care Unit...a more pallatible term for Alzheimer's Unit. Dress it up any way you like, it's a horrible thing.
Following too closely??? Another term for they look suspicious let's pull em over and say they they were following too closely... Seen it happen too many times.
Not a surprise about the wreck on Hereford Farm Road, last Friday I was coming home on that road as usual and a Navy guy in a small blue car had been riding my bumper since Grovetown, of course there were other cars in front of me. Further down the road this idiot decides to pass myself and the two other cars in front of me on a double yellow line in a curve. If I had been able to get his plate number I would have contacted the sheriff although I doubt they would have done anything. There is really no safe place on that road to pass anyone and the area in which this guy went around us was in a 45mph speed zone, which meant absolutely nothing to this idiot who had no respect for his life or the lives of others.
So forget the fact that they are dope dealers right freeshy........
Reckon there was not enough money to be had as a traveling beef jerky salesman...
Those navy guys are better on the water.
I don't know about that John but this one was certainly a nut.....maybe he had been a sea to long...
There is a bunch out there. Glad you are safe. I have to go through a 4 way stop on wheeler and aumond every day and its like taking my life in my hands every time. There is always one fool who doesnt get "wait your turn"
I know ecactly what you mean, you be safe also and have a great weekend...
It was only a matter of time before something like that happened on Hereford farm road. I avoid that road like the plague it truly creeps me out to drive down it with my family.
Dang if they keep arresting everyone, where is the jail they're gonna be put into? Already on TV the news said inmates are housed on mats on the floors...so let 'em smoke weed and put all the molesters, bank robbers, and killers in there and let the poor pot heads alone dang it.
We wouldn't need much Alzheimer's treatment if everyone knew about using alpha lipoic acid. It stops the process and is now showing ability to turn the patient around. Dr David Williams has the info on the internet. It worked 100% of time in German research. It has worked for people in the Augusta area too.
These armed robbers make me sick.. they should be tortured to feel the way their victims feel when they get a gun put to their head becuase some sorry lowlife [filtered word] wont get a real job!!!
tas, can't do that!!!! you would violate THEIR rights!
I know right. lol So I think those who think that should be done the same!!!! lol If it was not for these people these criminals would be doing hard labor to pay for their crimes, not watching tv all day. It's no wonder jail is not a threat to criminals. They are way more scared of hard work than jail, so why not actually "punish" them for thier crimes? Confinement means nothing to these lowlife [filtered word]'s!!!
