USC Aiken top ranked

The University of South Carolina Aiken is again on the list of U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges."

USC Aiken is ranked first among public baccalaureate colleges in the South. The university also held that ranking in 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2007.

U.S. News & World Report uses six categories to rank colleges: academic reputation/peer assessment, graduation and retention of students, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.

On the list of best national universities, Emory University was ranked the highest among Georgia colleges, tied for 18th. Georgia Tech tied for 35th, and the University of Georgia tied for 58th.

Clemson University tied for 61st, and the University of South Carolina tied for 108th. Both made a list of "up and comers."

Of course, ASU didn't make the cut. They suck and they are just looking for a buck instead of providing an education. Congrats USCA!

I love working for USCA...its better than Disney Land...the happiest place on earth...and grounds like a country club. The faculty and staff are committed to our students and it shows!

jack

ASU's mediocrity is a result of where they are located.

Congratulations to USCA, but those who say ASU is inferior to all others have no idea what they are talking about. ASU is a great school and I have no regrets whatsoever for attending and graduating, and I plan on getting my Master's there as well.

P. S. - I agree that both schools are wonderful. I just so happen to be working at USCA so naturally I'm partial. Being an Augusta/North Augusta native, its hard to take sides!!

To what do you base your assessment that ASU sucks Augustavoter? Have you attended that school, have you attended USCA? Was the curriculum to difficult or easy for you, did you not like the campus, the aesthetics of the place or was this just a casual observation? If you haven't attended the school, then how can you make any observation other than that it is in fact a school and leave it at that. If you are a current or former student then please enlighten us on the reasons that this University as you so aptly put it "sucks". If you can't provide sufficient proof as to the reasons this institution sucks, then you are, as I suspect, just another person who is part of the problem and not part of the solution.

Big Vike, I did not attend either. I attended a school in Texas. My wife however spent the past 8 years attending ASU only to graduate with a 200 plus hour BA. The school changed established curriculum on her 3 times in 4 years each time costing more money and time. The original classes that were set forth for her were changed and she even had to retake the same class, which she passed the first time, on 3 occasions because it wasn't part of the certified classes when they were taken. It turned out that the class was exactly the same. My wife was taking classes to become a teacher. She had to pay the school tuition and fees when she was interning and only had to report to ASU 2 days out of the whole semester. Then ASU used the 18 hours of credit toward her GPA but did not issue her a grade for the internship... So No I do not speak from my rear end about this. I speak from my wallet. $50k worth for a 4 year degree. Everything at ASU costs lots of money. Right down to the diploma. They gave my wife a plain old black and white letter sized diploma for graduation. They wanted $75 for a color one with a seal. WTF?

Big_vike

Thats a much better post, I didn't accuse you of speaking out of anything let alone your rear end, I just asked you to expound your position. Saying that something "sucks" tells us, the curious public nothing, your rebuttal tells us alot and may help someone make an informed decision in the future wether or not to attend ASU.

Thank you BV and I do hope it helps others.

I do wonder why ASU didn't make the cut, statistically?

Congratulations USCA!! If anyone would check the standards for the Nursing program at USCA as compaired with other schools around, even USC-Columbia, they would find that the standards for USCA are much higher than anywhere around here. That would/could be a good reason for rating in the top schools. It may be that the standards for the other programs are also set higher. Some are as much as 3-4 points higher. For one example, in the nursing program, you don't pass with a C you have to have a C+. We have had 2 children to graduate from USCA so they have a lot of our money.

I am a proud graduate of Augusta College -- good ole AC. That's before it became the pretentious Augusta State University. It was pre-Bloodworth and all the spending on buildings. It was a good place. Alas....

willistontownsc

I'm glad that USCA is number 1. That is a list that will make Augusta State and Lander jealous, that's for sure. Of course, I attended USCA.

I'm glad that USCA made it to #1 yet again. It's nice to know that the school you attend is worth the money you throw at it. I had a friend recently transfer to ASU and he said that the classes there were easier than those at USCA. I've also spoken to many new transfer students who say that they wish they had stayed where they were simply because of the difficulty of the courses and the standards USCA holds their students to. All of this just reassures me that I'm getting an excellent education for relatively low cost. This, coupled with the student/faculty interaction and the great scenery, makes it the only college around that I would ever attend. Having said all that, my opinion isn't biased in the slightest...

jbarrychristian

Congratulations are due to the faculty, staff, administration, and students of USCA for consistent excellence. I am glad that my daughter chose well. Now, keep up the good work!

I attended both USCA and ASU; they both have their good points and their weaknesses. You have to agree to participate and send in your information in order to be ranked and not all schools do. Congrats to USCA for the accolades!
