He was probably growing it as an experiment for school.
Judge's ruling keeps candidate on ballot
ATLANTA --- A Fulton County judge ruled Thursday that Democrat Jim Powell's name can stay on the ballot for the state Public Service Commission in November, reversing a decision by Georgia's top elections official that infuriated the state Democratic Party.
Secretary of State Karen Handel's office said it was considering an appeal.
Ms. Handel disqualified Mr. Powell and two other Democrats from running for office days before the July primary on grounds that they didn't meet residency requirements for the districts they sought to represent.
A judge allowed Mr. Powell's name to remain on the ballot for the primaries, and he won more than 300,000 votes to notch an easy victory. But the votes didn't count until Superior Court Judge Wendy Shoob reversed Ms. Handel's decision Thursday.
Officers seize drugs, weapons from teacher
COMER, Ga. --- Madison County officials have arrested a high school teacher they say was growing marijuana in his back yard.
Officers say they seized $18,000 worth of marijuana plants, cocaine and four weapons from the home of Joseph Linwood Prescott-Reynard, 51, who teaches horticulture, health and accounting at Clarke County High School. The school has put him on paid leave.

He was probably growing it as an experiment for school.
Teachers don't get paid much. He should have supplemented his job with a pizza delivery route, instead.
He is a horticulturist, he was developing a super plant for medicinal purposes.
Actually marijuana is a very good plant for reducing the effects of chemo and the pain of many illness's...
If they had not found the the cocain and weapons I would say leave him be .....growing for your own personal use should not be a crime...it should be legalized anyway.
karma, what's wrong with having weapons if they are not on the banned list?
It sounds to me that he was just using his skills. He is a horticulturist, accountant, and health scienist. Why not grow a cash crop on the side, and sell it for a reasonable profit. The students could learn a lot from him. They probably think he is cool.
