Hold fast in local fight against X-Mart

  • Follow Letters

As an 11-year citizen of Augusta I stand with those who do not want this X-Mart to open in this area.

Pornography destroys the mind and soul of man. Evidence is in the daily media. Men, women and children all over the world are being sexually and mentally abused by people who are bound up by pornography's influences. Teenagers are losing their teen years and also their lives because they use prostitution as a way of escaping difficulties in their personal lives.

There are tons of statistics that show that the existence of pornography and the influences that are associated with it are not good things. It has been my experience that when evil cannot get its way, it resorts to dirty tactics to try to back its adversary into a corner -- i.e., the financial threats that the city will lose its legal fight and owe a big legal debt. That is what the lawyers for X-Mart are doing: trying to back the Augusta Commission into a corner. Commissioners need to stand fast and not waver from their choice of light as opposed to darkness.

Evil will always spew out lies to try to put people into a state of fear. Fear is this: False Evidence Appearing Real. The lawyers of X-Mart are using false evidence to attempt to sway the commission. Do not be fooled by false evidence; pornography is destructive to society as a whole, and we as citizens must stand united against its very existence.

Until the "powers that be" in this land decide to do something about the liberal porn laws nothing can be done except to continue praying against these type of evil places.. But along with that statement comes one that will say this is impossible as people are addicted to the filth and will do whatever it takes to defend it to the death until it jumps up and takes a loved one in their lives away from them...This type of "entertainment" is useful for only one thing and that is the eventual downfall of the family unit...Depravity breeds depravity..

christian what will you do when chritianity is no longer the majority religion. Where will you stand when the muslim religion starts legislating your morals for you. I am not for X-Mart. I am, however, for the constitution. It's that piece of paper that gives you the right to practice your religion freely. With that also comes things we don't like. That's part of being in a free society. You get your freedoms and others get theirs no matter how much we don't like them. You can't have it both ways!

truthnlove

well said wylds.

doubt_it

But don't you understand Wylds? They're just trying to save our souls. Never mind the drugs, prostitution, Aids, poverty, poor education and works skills; Augusta can't handle dirty pictures!

brimisjoshan

Hey Wylds, how u doing? I understand your point about different religions and the freedoms we have. But here is the issue the pornography industry feeds the sexual abusers out there. When pictures are no longer enough then they want to act out there desires. Now if they do that between consenting adults thats between them, but many resort to molestation of children, raping, etc. Also, many marriages are damaged when one spouse is addicted to pornography. I guess what I am saying is that we should stand against all pornography whether it be on the internet or the X-mart. Also, you seem to be an intelligent person--then let me ask you. If I as free person in the U.S. oppose such a place as the X-mart-- what do you suggest I do? It seems to me that just to stand by and let it open it is not an acceptable option. Also, I think genuine Christians are already in the minority. The Bible makes it clear that this would happen before the end of the world. Just a thought.

draksig

You speak as if the X-mart is the only place that people can get these matherial. Will you also support blocking adult websites inside Augusta? Or adult programming on Cable or sattelite?

I'd be willing to bet you would? I have often believed that there are people who were envious of the taliban and how they forced their beliefs on other people.

GnipGnop

I tell you what you do. You lobby your legislators to change the laws. Until that happens X-Mart has the constitutional right to open. No matter how unpleasant the business is. I also understand your complaints for a business like this to open. Here's the rub. What if in the next 10 years the community your church resides in has an influx of muslims. They feel your church stands for everything they are against. Even though your church abides by the laws of the land they protest and try to have it closed. See the slippery slope we open up? I only bring these things up to show what can happen when you legislate morals based on your religion. I am not trying to tell you porn is good but unfortunatly it's one of the ills that our government seems to think is a free speech right. Until those laws are changed they have the right to open. As bad as we all may feel about it, once again, it's the bad part of a free society.

MJDW

Right on Wyldsfam4, man can make anything evil. O' by the way brimisjoshan you can watch porn right form your cable company.

brimisjoshan

MJDW, duhh I know that and from my internet etc. As I said I am against it all. Thanks for your response Wylds, I just wonder how many here who says that the X-Mart has a right to open would also stand with me to have the laws changed?

christian134

wyldsfam4 you ask the question, "What will I do when Christianity is no longer the majority religion?" Let me answer simply the same thing I am doing now...What is suppose to change?

brimisjoshan

Amen, Christian. We will hold to Jesus and his teachings no matter what--even if it is not the majority, even if it cost us our lives.

GnipGnop

What would change is you may find your beliefs illegal. Your churches closed and you and your brothers and sisters burned and tortured. It's one thing to say you would give your life for your beliefs it is another to actually do it or see your loved ones
tortured.

SargentMidTown

I agree. The location of the Mart is a perfect location for Mercy Ministries. They both should be located away from residential neighborhoods. Let us pray that the owner of XMart will donate the building to Mercy Ministries to spread the love of Jesus to the least of those among us.

imdstuf

I suppose prostituation, adultery, etc are all relatively new concepts that only started with the advent of adult book stores. Oh wait, those things have existed well before anything like XMart existed..

brimisjoshan

Good suggestion Sargent. Wylds, Christianity was began under great persecution, many were martyred. The bible makes it clear that we are to obey our governments laws until they violate God's law. For example, it is legal to kill an unborn baby through abortion in our country. But if I could remove every abortion clinic with my life, then I would. I would risk imprisonment to save the lives of children. What I am saying is that just because something is legal does not make it right. Just because its legal doesn't mean I should not do everything within my power to stop it. Slavery was legal but many broke the law to help slaves escape to a free state and I am sure they would do it again.

GnipGnop

I agree. You do everything within the law to stop the things you believe in. X-Mart has proved, through the law, that they have the right to open. I am also against abortion but that doesn't give one the right to bomb abortion clinics nor kill doctors that perform abortions. I become no better than those I am trying to stop. God put freewill on earth so that WE may chose what path we will walk. I can only inform one of the error of his ways. I cannot walk his path for him nor am I supposed to judge him for whatever path he chooses.

GnipGnop

I enjoyed the debate and discussion. You guys have a great day I will catch ya next time!!

brimisjoshan

Same Here!

critter

They met the legal requirements. Courts have ruled against the city. X-Mart is getting tons of free press and eventually, tons of money in this lawsuit, money that will come even from the pockets of those who find this type of business abhorrent.

No_Longer_Amazed

At least this LTE writer will help pay the multi-millions of dollars that X-Mart will win in the law suit, unlike the one yesterday who lived in Evans. Got to wonder if he has a sister named Jean as stupidity runs "All in the Family."

JAYLENCLARK

how bout not going to the porn store but mind your own soul . like its worded in the bible . he amoung us who without sin cast the foris stone. so to save your christian mind stay out of the x mart and let us who like the type of stuff. heck aunt maes has been less than 1 mile accross the bridge i see no bible quotes slingging that way

brimisjoshan

Jay, the scripture you quote also goes on to say to the women caught in adultery to "sin no more". The fact is that many Christian people struggle with the sin of pornography and it doesn't help when another store opens to tempt. Since you include yourself as one who like this type of stuff--- let me encourage you to find help. You can Google "pornography addiction" and find a lot of help. Why should I be concerned about your soul? Because Jesus told us to love one another and care for one another. Have a good weekend!

wyldsfam4, show me in the Constitution the "right" to peddle prornaography. Seems the SCOTUS has rules that if it offends the moral values of the community, then it is not allowed. I hope the Commisson fights thos all the way through the courts. As for the letter writer, I agree, but do not believe he is 11 years old.

jack

Wylds, Christianity will always be the majority religion in this country. This country was founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs and doctrine. It may not be a majority white Christian religion, as most Hispanics and blacks are Christians and will out number even the whites in the not to distant future.

critter

Yep, y'all just enjoy paying the X-Mart owner all that cash. Maybe he'll open another store with it. Keep hangin' in there - never mind a minor thing like legality.

whatisreallygoingon

"Pornography destroys the mind and soul of man." Who are you kidding? Evidently the mind and soul of the man had to have a rotten spot due to the fact a man invented porn. Lets just be realistic. There have always been these types of establishments and there always will be. Not that I support it, but Augusta has so many other matters that they really need to focus on. If you want to talk about something obscene, what about the Regency Mall? Rising county taxes for us taxpayers, even though Dr. Bedden is cleaning up-Richmond County School System. I appreciate that there are individuals that detest this place, but we are spending millions of dollars here. And I say we because Richmond County taxpayers are picking up the tab. Fight the good fight already,be done with it and move on please, please, please.

TakeAstand

It would be nice if the people so concerned about preventing x mart from opening were as passionate about stopping these repeat offenders drunk driving. Why don't we keep writing in a milliion times to the AC about that!!! Maybe something will get done. Protest!! That drunk driver is more of a threat to your whole family than x mart will ever be!!!

iwannaknowthetruth

Fighting this is just another waste of taxpayer money. Augusta is going to lose. But, would someone explain to me why the good citizens want to keep x-mart out, but have no problem with the strip joints? That's where your drugs, prostitution and other crime elements hang out. Come on all you "do-gooders" get real!

mysay24-7

I believe that freedom does come with a price and just as others have stated you can't have things only YOUR way. Just because YOUR beliefs are hell-fire and damn nation does not mean everyones are. Everyone has their own beliefs and their own religion and yours is not any stronger than anyone elses...What does your religion say about crack cocaine, meth and drunk driving how about using some of your resources on fighting something that will make a difference not something that someone can still do whether or not x-mart reopens. Do you actually think that sex offenders go out to a store to buy stuff...how about having augusta clean up the other buildings around the xmart...the ones used for drug dealers...prostitution and other illlegal activities...or have you even been by the site that they are talking about..if this is the gateway to the city..it needs to be cleaned up like its the gateway to the city because at that intersection it looks like you are entering a city of filth.

Hey brimis - 'Religion, like alcoholism, can be a crutch, and it can be an addiction. Just as with alcohol, religion may be used to hide other problems.' You can Google 'religion addiction' and get help also.
