Nastia Liukin has one more medal -- five. But America may have fallen in love with her teammate Shawn Johnson, who may be a latter-day Mary Lou Retton.
That's because, after graciously accepting three silvers (remember the Swedish wrestler who threw his bronze on the floor?), Johnson won gold on the balance beam.
But more than that, she beamed afterward.
Talk about a winning smile. For images to take away from these Olympics, Johnson's glittering grin may be second only to the Mark Spitz-like eight-medal pose cut by modern history's best Olympian, Michael Phelps.
Liukin needs to be remembered, too, for her five medals, including gold in the all-around. The U.S. women's gymnastics team will also be remembered for getting the country back into the game; the team was shut out in Sydney. This year's will be remembered as one of the best.
And if they had another event after the balance beam -- just the "beam" -- Shawn Johnson would've taken the gold in that too.
