John Edwards exposed for who he is

  • Follow Letters

Fashionable as it is to register scorn at the mention of the National Enquirer, we owe that publication a debt for their recent exposà of former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards and his sexual peccadillo.

Edwards' claim that his affair is the sole business of his family and himself would be true if he were not simultaneously lusting after a position of power in our government. During his political campaigning Edwards strove to present the persona of a "Mr. Perfect" right up to a $400 haircut. His performances were replete with constant bouncing around the stage, unremitting grinning and the unflagging energy of a high school cheerleader.

The recent interview with ABC's Bob Woodruff showed that Edwards still feels that his faÃade of genuineness is still intact. Reporter Woodruff (and the millions of viewers) were subjected to the phony grins, the piercing eye contact and the repeated assertions of his love for his wife as he desperately tried to salvage his career hopes.

Edwards, whose self-inflicted injury has unmasked him, betrayed his arrogance most blatantly when he referred to himself as having come "from nothing ... the son of a mill worker." Men and woman who work hard and raise their children in less than luxurious circumstances are infinitely superior to this self-destructive man who wasted the potential his "mill worker" parent provided him.

Gene Rickaby, Martinez

Excellent commentary. Too bad

Excellent commentary. Too bad the Enquirer didn't expose him before the primaries began. It would be interesting to look at who would have received Edward's votes had he not been in it until he dropped out in April. Also, the money paid to his "videographer".......that was nothing more than "hush money" and the federal election commission needs to look at that more closely.

People who live in glass

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Newt is a "shining" example. At least Edwards didn't announce that he was leaving his wife at her hospital bed like the good conservative Gingrich.

If U needed this story to
Unpublished

If U needed this story to hate on Edwards, then your attention span is lacking. Most of these guys behave the same and it's the woman's fault. They are always hanging around & grinning like school girls KNOWING that the man is married. Edwards demonstrated poor judgement, then lied. We all have done it, so the Enquirer is only telling the truth about our society.

McCain dumped his first wife

McCain dumped his first wife too! She was disfigured after an auto accident and he left her for his current wife. Look it up! Oh yeah, and he IS running for president! Can we trust him?! Since McCain cheated on his wife too, why should we elect him?

Justus, it's the womens fault? Really? It takes two to tango...and to do anything else. Women may dangle the bait, but its the men that ultimately decide to strike or not.

John Edwards didn't need

John Edwards didn't need exposing. Any one who was paying attention knew that he was talking sweet nothings. I have a close friend who is a "valley girl", raised in the mill village, she cried when the story came out. She believed hin to be the greatest thing ever.

John Edwards proves

John Edwards proves immorality has no race, gender, or address. People disappoint us because our expectations of them are unrealistic. If we would just keep in mind that we are all subject to make poor decisions that threaten our relationship with God, and not try to hold to standards that are acceptable to man....the world would be simplier and better for all of us. We allow political affiliations, race, and where people live to dictate our expectations, and there lies the problem. White people commit adultry & murder just like blacks. Democrats cheat just like Newt, Steve Foley, and Hyde. It amazes me how surprised the immoral conduct of some makes us.

well here we go again,those

well here we go again, those democrats fooling around.it's happened since time and will continue forever.i find it hilarious that we point out their weaknessess, but conveniently forget about the gop side,(foley, craig, etc.)i guess it's alright for men to seduce other men and little boys, huh? i guess we've all forgotten about the gannon/guckert story also?gannon was a male prostitute who visited the whitehouse briefing room over 200 times.he had no credentials except for working on his high schools newspaper.he lied to the ss about his names and was never issued a press badge.he used day passes authorized by someone in the whitehouse.if you read his googled name (jeff gannon)he was checked in and also visited the whitehouse on days when there was no press conf.there were times in the ss logs where he never signed out, meaning he stayed in the whitehouse overnight with someone?archive the washington post in july or aug 1989 and read about bush 41's scandal about boy prostitutes touring the whitehouse after hours.who did gannon come to see in the whitehouse?the prez who could only aspire to be a cheerleader instead of a ball player?keep us laughing repukes with your wimpy little wrists!

Gouse, Newt didn't try to lie

Gouse, Newt didn't try to lie his way out of his infidelities as has Edwards, BJ Cliton, et al. He did what was right both for the nation and Republican Party and resigned. Neither was he running for President of the US as was Edwards when he was having his affair with the "videographer" that didn't know how to take pictures. Hope the IRS and FCC look into this situation in depth.

Justusdummies, don't lump me

Justusdummies, don't lump me in with Edwards by claiming we have all shown poor judgement and lied. I have shown poor jusgement at times, but never lied about it. Republicans like Newt have the integrity to leave office unlike DIMocRATS who re-elect crooks and liars.

PaulDrake, let's not forget

PaulDrake, let's not forget the Lewinskys that BJ Cliton was getting in the Oval Office, or the male prostitute ring run out of Barny Franks house by his "partner" . Foley never had sex with the paige, Craig was never convicted of anything, and you have no idea the real reason or person Gannon was visiting the WH. Edwards and Cltion got cuaght and lied. The Republicans (other than Craig) were either not re-elected or resigned, something DIMs wont do as they have no integrity.

It was a politcal move to deminish Edwards' impact or totally eliminate him from the Demo Socialist Convention. Politicians don't have morals. They just preach them when it is politically advantageous. Politics is an ungodly profession. It is a "step down" from class action suit lawyers.

You can be a very moral

You can be a very moral person and break all of your own ethical beliefs, that doesn't discriminate by gender, age, race, or religious or political affiliation. We humans are a pitiful lot. All full of "logic and reason" and "rationalizations"-it is no wonder we still don't live in caves sniffing each others cracks like a dog. Yep, crack addicts! Hee,hee, hee. That tears me up. Funny guy, No?

jack.....you are totally wrong! Newt Gingrich admitted he voted to inpeach Bill Clinton while he was having an affair of his own. Newt was being a huge hypocrit and you are defending a liar as though he handled this honorably. There is nothing honorable about adultry....Democrat or Republican! It makes all politicians seem untrustworthy.

Given the number of people in

Given the number of people in the White house, why would anyone assume that a male prostitute was there to serve the president, and not a staff member or secret service. That is a non sequitur. The White House includes: six stories containing 132 rooms and 35 bathrooms, twenty-eight fireplaces, eight staircases, three elevators, five full-time chefs, a tennis court, a (single-lane) bowling alley, a movie theater, a jogging track, a swimming pool, and a putting green. It receives about 5,000 visitors a day. I don't think the lot of you could muster one brain.
