CONSIGN DESIGN

OWNER: Tammy Jackson

ADDRESS: 318 Baston Road, Suite 102 Martinez, GA 30907

ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS: I am an upscale resale shop for home interior items including custom curtains, furniture and decor.

NUMBER OF YEARS OPEN: I just opened in June.

WHAT YOUR BUSINESS DOES: We resell items for clients that do not want the hassles of having a yard sale, or their items are worth more than to just give them away. This way they make something on their investment and someone else enjoys purchasing something of great value at a discounted price.

NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES: 1 full time and 2 part time

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THIS BUSINESS? I have always been a bargain shopper. It just made sense that I would open something that enables me to share my frugal habit with someone else.

STRANGEST CLIENT/INCIDENT: I really have not had one yet that I can think of.

WHAT YOU LIKE ABOUT THE BUSINESS: I absolutely love to see someone purchase something they want at an affordable price. I also love to see the faces of the consignors when they get their check after the items have sold. It is priceless.

WHAT YOU DON'T LIKE ABOUT THE BUSINESS: Being away from my children during the day. When school is in it won't be so bad, but summer is tough.

WHY YOUR BUSINESS STANDS OUT: We carry a wide selection of good quality, gently used items that we pass on at an affordable price. If we don't have what you are looking for we can add your name to our "Wish List" and call you when we get something in that we think you might like. It's like having your own personal shopper.

ORGANIZATIONS/EVENTS INVOLVED IN: Being a cancer survivor, I am involved in the Lymphoma/Leukemia Society. I also support the Humane Society.

AWARDS: None, yet.

YOUR BEST BUSINESS ADVICE: Being scared of a new endeavor is normal. Having the confidence to overcome those nerves is what it takes to just jump in and do what you are passionate about. A business plan and a lot of research helps, too.

WHERE YOU SEE YOUR BUSINESS IN 5 YEARS/10 YEARS: In a much bigger space, offering much more merchandise and offering delivery and pick-up. Our 11-year-old son has a delivery job waiting on him.

MOST IMPORTANT BUSINESS PRINCIPLE: Be fair, honest and just plain nice to everybody who walks in your doors.

BIGGEST CHALLENGES IN THE BUSINESS: I don't want to be known as a "bartering" shop. I feel like the consignors and I have set the price fairly and markdowns should happen when they are scheduled to take place.

ROLE MODELS/INSPIRATIONS: My husband. He is so successful in everything he does and I have learned so much from him with his fantastic business knowledge and he is so supportive of me having this shop.
