APPLING, Ga. - Mr. Layard L. Durham, 79, of Whiteoak Rd., Appling, Ga., entered into rest August 16, 2008 at his residence. He was the beloved husband of the late Lillie Bell Faulkner Durham. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Jack Brewer officiating. Pallbearers will be: Lewis Eubanks, Craig Eubanks, Travis Dorn, Heath Dorn, Chad Tice and Thomas Dorn. Interment will follow in the Plum Branch Cemetery in Plum Branch, S.C. with full Military Honors. Mr. Durham was born in Auburndale, Fla. and was the son of the late Leland Durham and the late Vilety Cumbee Durham. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service. Mr. Durham served during the Korean Conflict, during Vietnam and was a ROTC instructor at the Citadel and Vanderbilt University. He was also retired from the U.S. Postal service with 21 years of service in Clermont, Fla. Survivors include: children, Juanita Gilstrap (Bill), Edgefield, S.C., Amanda Clem (David), Appling, Ga., Carolyn Edmunds (Emory), McCormick, S.C., Thomas W. Dorn (Eiko), Havelock, N.C., James A. Dorn, Clermont, Fla., Jacqueline Tice, Orlando, Fla., Jeanette Bridges (Edward), Clermont, Fla., Kenneth W. Dorn, Clermont, Fla., Michelle Willis, Montverde, Fla., Mary Ann Walker, Centre, Ala., Larry Durham, Diane Durham, Steve Durham and Lisa Durham; sister, Wilma Bridges, Clermont, Fla.; 31 grandchildren; 41 great- grandchildren. Mr. Durham was also preceded in death by a brother, Delbert Durham and a grandson, Keith Edmunds. Friends may call at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. David Clem, 5225 Whiteoak Rd., Appling, Ga.
