Teen says girls beat her with baseball bat

An Augusta teenager was treated at a hospital after telling police she was assaulted by several girls with a baseball bat after a weekend high school football scrimmage.

The 16-year-old Lucy C. Laney High School student told authorities she had argued Saturday night with a group of girls, who she thought had left the scene.

When the girls returned in a gray Dodge Stratus, one of them struck her in the head with the bat, the victim told police.

On Sunday night, a Medical College of Georgia Hospital spokeswoman said the girl had been treated and released.

Man says he was shot in leg outside home

Police investigated a report of a shooting at a south Augusta trailer park during the weekend.

Sirrico Miguel Wilson, 19, told authorities he was standing outside his home in the 2900 block of Glenn Hills Drive at about 8 p.m. Saturday when he heard what sounded like a gunshot. He then noticed blood trickling down his leg.

According to a Richmond County sheriff's report, deputies interviewed two witnesses at Emery Hills Trailer Park but couldn't confirm that any shots had been fired.

Mr. Wilson was treated and released from Medical College of Georgia Hospital.
