America runs on oil. The internal combustion engine using fossil fuel is the predominant form of mechanized transport in America. Until these vehicles are converted to other forms of energy, or need replacing, we are stuck on fossil fuels.
Our nation lacks the infrastructure to change to alternative sources of energy rapidly. Attempts at switching to alternative sources of energy have not worked well or have encountered problems. This can be noted in ethanol production. The energy produced is less than the amount used in the production of ethanol. Converting agricultural resources to energy production lead to a rise in food prices.
The internal combustion engine was hailed as the solution to the pollution produced by draft animals in use at the beginning of the 20th century. Are we sure the unintended consequences of other alternative energy sources have been fully thought through? The wide use of alternative energy resources and converting to alternative energy will not happen for years!
Sen. John McCain has a sensible plan to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and help stabilize the cost of energy while producing energy in America. Sen. McCain's program includes developing proven coal and oil sources to include offshore drilling and building 24 more nuclear power plants (a proven technology), while bringing other alternative sources of energy online.
Let's contrast Sen. Barack Obama's energy plan. Sen. Obama was adamant about not developing America's fossil fuels, (a scheme by big oil companies), and he opposes nuclear power. Sen. Obama plans to develop alternative energy sources rapidly enough to meet future demands using unproven technology, while changing his position rapidly enough to stabilize his poll numbers. Sen. Obama now wants to allow offshore drilling and raiding the strategic oil reserve to try to lower oil prices -- a complete change from his previous positions.
I guess this pandering to polls is the kind of "change we can believe in," but I don't think it will solve our energy problems!

Good ole' King of the Road Obama is having a problem with traffic on the highway to the kingdom of Bama Land...He keeps flip-flopping like a fish that's been out of water too long...Now his followers are dizzy from the flopping as such the highway is clogged and bogged....Nowhere to run....Nowhere left to yell out "Change".."Energy who cares about energy just let me rule" says out little buddy Obama..
The more we see of Obama the less we like him. His current idea of taking the profits of the oil companies and redistributing them to the nonworking while blocking the drilling of new oil sources seems like a good way of killing the industry.....without having a replacement first. Not exactly the wisdom of Yoda.

Is anyone aware of an executative order signed by the Senior Bush and just recently recinded by George Bush that prohibits off shore oil drilling except in a few areas. How long has McCain been in the Senate? What has he done to ensure oil independence for our country?
HadEnough, did you mean executive order? The US has only 3% of all the world's oil resources in its offshore drilling locations. Of course, we're going to want to save that for emergencies and buy elsewhere to use the other 97% of the earth's supply first. Obama wants to open the strategic reserve for the common American's use, which only has 35 days worth of oil stored and is only supposed to be used by our military in the event of a homeland attack. It seems that Obama's plan was poorly thought out at best, and intentionally crippling to our military, and consequently our homeland security at worst.
A better description of Obama's energy plan is Obama's NON-energy plan.

The Obama campaign is vetting vice-presidential running mates for Obama. If only the Democrat Party had vetted Obama before they jumped on his empty wagon, they would have removed him from their list of candidates. Bad Choice, Dems.
McCain will be pitiful as a leader. As Bush said years ago, "McCain is out of it." If McCain becomes president, The united States will become second class. McCain will become another Reagan who has been our worst president.

The problem with that is, it will take seven to ten years, to recover the first barrel. The Saddleback interview (not a debate) was also revealing when the question came to the abortion issue. "Life begins at conception" according to McCain. Obama who favors abortion and even Infanticide explained that same question with "That's above my paygrade".
Mgroothand, I think he was referring to a doctor or scientist to determine. He said, he doesn't favor abortion, just a woman's right to choose. I agree with that assessment. I personally wouldn't allow my child to be aborted, but I don't feel, it's my right to tell someone else what to do. To me, life begins at conception. Obama was being frank about his answers. The congress passed a drilling bill in 96 which was vetoed by Pres. Clinton. What policy did the "oil companies" pass? You know that is not true. Justthefacts,the oil companies advised VP Cheney, on the policies that are now in place. Why don't he just release the list of who was at the meetings and their imput. He is fighting this thing to the Supreme Court, to keep the imformation confidential. You know this. McCain was saying things to pander to the right on Supreme Court justices, taxes and just about anything, to fool the conservatives, he is one of them. Tell me, if I don't have a job, how can I buy health insurance to get my tax break? Does this break apply to all who are already paying for health insurance? How much will it cost and how will he pay for it? Will he be able to get a Democratic congress to pass it?

Justthefacts, we should have limited drilling, if the states at risk, can go along with it. But, it should not be the centerpiece of our policy. We need alternative fuel sources and more fuel efficient vehicles. Tell me how McCain health plan, would insure the forty seven million Americans, who have no health coverage? Or should we say, forget them? How is he going to pay for his $7000 earned income tax credit? What is he going to do, that's not already being done, to capture Osama Bin Laden? Pure politics!!!
