EVANS, Ga. - Entered into rest Tuesday, August 12, 2008, Mr. William R. Whaley, 88, husband of Mary A. Whaley. Mr. Whaley was a native of Huntsville, AL and had lived in the Augusta area since 1943. During WWII he served in the 419th Armored Artillery, 10th Armored Division and the Battle of The Bulge. He also served in the Korean Conflict. He retired from Johnson Motor Company after 23 years. He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and the French Bible Class. Family members in addition to his wife of 64 years include his daughter and son-in-law: Patricia and Richard Pinnell, Augusta; son and daughter-in-law: Kenneth and Tara Whaley and son: Alan Whaley, Martinez; five grandchildren: Laura Williams and her husband Walker, Dean Whaley, Ann Marie Whaley, William Whaley and Abbey Sykes; two brothers: Herbert Whaley, Huntsville, AL and Joe B. Whaley, Caneyville, KY. A Memorial service will be held Friday, August 15, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. C.W. Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends Friday beginning at 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service.
