Donations needed

Golden Harvest Food Bank is seeking donations of canned meats and vegetables and other nonperishable food items.

Author, author

A Book Bash Author Visit will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Nancy Carson Library, 135 Edgefield Road, North Augusta.

More than 30 local and regional authors will be in attendance at the event to sign books. Some authors will have books available for purchase.

Aiken's Makin'

The 32nd annual Aiken's Makin' festival will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5 and 6, in downtown Aiken. The festival includes local and regional arts, crafts, food vendors and family entertainment.

The Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce is seeking entertainers for the festival. Ensembles of no more than four people, guitarists, soloists and other forms of entertainment that do not require amplification are invited to apply. Call (803) 641-1111 for more information.

Da Vinci on display

The Inventions of Leonardo da Vinci exhibit is on display through Oct. 11 at Fort Discovery, 1 Seventh St., Augusta.

This interpretive exhibition includes interactive models built from da Vinci's drawings. Showings of the program The Spirit of Discovery: Follow It Through will be held each day. Computer stations also will be available that will allow participants to virtually explore portions of da Vinci's journal, Codice Atlantico , devoted to mechanics, engineering and other disciplines. Honoring youths

The Augusta Chronicle is accepting nominations for Community Counts Youth of the Month. This award recognizes students of good academic standing who possess special talents in the arts, athletics or other areas. Youths who volunteer in their school, church or community also are worthy of nomination.

The child selected as Youth of the Month will be highlighted in an article in The Augusta Chronicle . A banquet will be held next summer to honor all 12 recipients of the award and their family members.

Nominees must be ages 8 to 18 and residents of the Aiken-Augusta area at the time of entry. Nomination forms are available online at augustachronicle.com/communitycounts.
