Road projects will alter drivers' routes

State and local traffic officials announced Thursday a series of changes to Interstate 20 that will affect motorists in the weeks ahead.

The changes come as construction on the I-20 and Bobby Jones Expressway interchange reaches the halfway point.

Officials said Thursday that they hope crews get most of the work done by Thanksgiving, then reopen the Davis Road ramps. About that same time they expect to have construction wrapped up at the intersection of Scott Nixon Memorial Drive and Bobby Jones Expressway.

Construction on the first of the new flyover ramps at Bobby Jones Expressway and I-20 is to be completed in March.

They need bigger signs explaining direction when venturing out onto these new interchanges....My daughter was out that way and ended up facing people coming into her path going the wrong way...They were going the wrong way and according to her it wasn't just one it was many. Praise the Lord there were no accidents...

I have to commend all the contractors involved in the I-20 work. As someone who is employed in the highway construction industry, I have been really impressed by the professionalism shown. The traffic control has been smooth, the work appears to be moving along swiftly. It won't be long and it will be complete, and we'll all be using the new ramps and thinking, "They should have done this YEARS ago." Good job, everyone.

Have to agree with RK -- I travel I-20 every single day and more issues with drivers not paying attention to their surroundings then with the traffic stream. GA DoT has done a wonderful job, working quickly and efficiently with minimum disruptions. GOOD JOB!!!!!

I agree the people working in the Heat gruelling humidity have done a wonderful job. Glad to see that there will be lights up at the intersections. Now hopefully they will place interstate lights on the medians running through Augusta

Lights would be a nice addition, Spurs. I agree with the good job the GADoT has done thus far. At first it seemed like such a mess, but I can honestly say that my drive time has only been slightly decreased when I choose to travel on I-20. I am sure it will be very nice (and much safer!) when the project is completed.
