Golden Harvest Food Bank is seeking donations of canned meats and vegetables and other nonperishable food items.

Libraries closed
Libraries in the East Central Georgia Regional Library System will be closed Wednesday for staff in-service training.
Da Vinci exhibit
The Inventions of Leonardo da Vinci exhibit will be on display through Oct. 11 at Fort Discovery, 1 Seventh St.
This interpretive exhibition includes interactive models built from da Vinci's drawings.
Also, there will be showings of the program The Spirit of Discovery: Follow It Through each day.
Computer stations will be available to allow virtual exploration of portions of da Vinci's journal Codice Atlantico , devoted to mechanics, engineering and other disciplines.

Docent training
The Morris Museum of Art is accepting applications for the 2008-09 docent training class, which will begin in late September.
The museum is looking for volunteers who enjoy art and are interested in working with people.
Adults interested in the program may attend the docent social at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the museum, 1 10th St.

Museum program
A new educational program, Preserving History: Behind the Scenes at the Augusta Museum of History, is designed to show visitors how the museum maintains its historical collections.
The guided tours will be held at 1 and 2 p.m. Saturdays through September. The history museum is at 560 Reynolds St.
Space is limited to 15 for each session, and participation is on a first-come, first-served basis. The tour is free with the cost of regular admission.
Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for children and free for children under age 5 and museum members.

Outstanding youths
The Augusta Chronicle is accepting nominations for Community Counts Youth of the Month. This award recognizes students of good academic standing who possess special talents in the arts, athletics or other areas. Youths who volunteer in their school, church or community also are worthy of nomination.
The child selected as Youth of the Month will be highlighted in an article in The Augusta Chronicle . A banquet will be held next summer to honor all 12 recipients of the award and their family members.
Nominees must be ages 8 to 18 and residents of the Aiken-Augusta area at the time of entry. Nomination forms are available online at augustachronicle.com/communitycounts.
