Last year's United Way of the CSRA campaign had no goal and raised more than $4.3 million.
This year, there will be a goal, according to Rina Powell, the chapter's senior director of resource development, and it will be announced at the organization's kickoff luncheon Aug. 25.
"We are really going to need the community to reach the goal," she said.
Already, volunteers have begun soliciting funds in area workplaces through the Pacesetter program to prime the pump before the kickoff meeting. Ms. Powell said the Pacesetter campaigns have gone well thus far.
About 600 people are expected to attend the luncheon, which will be at Bell Auditorium. Registration will begin at 11:30 with the luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m.
"The kickoff is an opportunity to pull the community together and launch our campaign," Ms. Powell said.
The campaign's theme is Light the Way.
The luncheon costs $20 per person or $160 for a corporate table of eight. The deadline to register is Aug. 15.
