APPLING, Ga. - Neal Jay Shead, 44, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday August 4, 2008. Funeral services will he held at 2:00 PM on Thursday August 7, 2008 at Kiokee Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Hartman officiating. Burial will follow at Kiokee Baptist Church cemetery. Neal was a devoted and faithful husband to Lisa A. Sanders Shead and also leaves behind two wonderful children, Matthew and Megan. He was a warrior for Christ and had a passion to see all come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Neal battled leukemia for a year and a half and fought until the very last moment, but became victorious and now sits at the feet of his Jesus. Those that knew him well know how much he loved the Lord, his family and friends, fishing, and hunting. Neal was a life long resident of Columbia County and graduated from Evans High School in 1982. He was an electrician with professional integrity, being a former member of the local Electrical Union # 1579. Neal was a member of Kiokee Baptist Church. He was a man of few words, but many actions. A man that was bold and courageous. Survivors include his wife, Lisa A Sanders Shead, two children, Matthew and Megan Shead, his mother, Edna Fay Shead of Martinez, GA, sister, Mandy Shead Burdett (Jay) of Statesboro, GA, two brothers, James (Lynda) Shead and Roger (Melanie) Shead of Appling, GA, nieces and nephews, Kristi and James Burdett of Statesboro, GA, Katie Shead, Hannah Shead, Alex Shead, Ryan Shead, Madison Shead, and Austin Shead, all of Appling, GA. Neal was preceded in death by his father, the late James Emory Shead Jr. Pallbearers will be Pete Knox, Phillip Knox, Kenneth Swim, Cecil Frost, David Oellerich, and Benny Oellerich. Honorary pallbearers will be William Black, Jerry Paschal, Mike Guilbeau, Mark Guilbeau, Mike Garrett, Steve Garrett, Billy Sheppard, and Tommy Sheppard. The family will receive friends on Wednesday August 6, 2008 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Platt's Funeral Home Belair Rd.
