GNAT SWATTING: The Augusta GreenJackets will face the Savannah Sand Gnats at 7 p.m. at Lake Olmstead Stadium, 78 Milledge Road. Can the Jackets hold on to first place?


BACK TO SCHOOL BALL: The Teens in Action with Goals Back to School Ball will be at 8 p.m. at Henry H. Brigham Community Center, 2463 Golden Camp Road. The formal event is free and will include food, music, dancing, door prizes and a tropical color scheme. Call (706) 796-6819.

MUSIC TO YOUR EARS: A show featuring Soapbar, Against the Grain and John Krueger will begin at 8 p.m. at Sector 7G, 631 Ellis St.


CALLING TALENTED TEENS: THE AUGUSTA CHRONICLE is accepting nominations for Community Counts Youth of the Month. This award recognizes good pupils, 8 to 18 years old, who also have special talents in the arts, athletics or other areas. Youths who volunteer in their school, church or community also are worthy of nomination.

Those selected as Youth of the Month will be highlighted in an article in The Augusta Chronicle. A banquet will be held next summer to honor all 12 recipients of the award and their family members.

Nomination forms are available at Finalists will be notified by phone and an interview will be scheduled. Nominations from previous months will be kept on file for one year and considered at each judging.

AU professor doing research on Gulf War health disparities
An Augusta University professor is being funded to do research on the health disparities of female veterans involved in the first Gulf War compared to their male counterparts.
