Tell full story about city's X-Mart fight

  • Follow Letters

This is regarding the July 24 article concerning X-Mart and written by Sandy Hodson ("X-Mart keeps up fight in new suit"). I was very disappointed in the way this article was handled.

The newspaper so seldom gives our commissioners support when they do the right thing and is quick to jump on them when they screw up. OK. They did the right thing in fighting X-Mart by not allowing them to have a business license, and they deserve some credit! This has been a battle for several years, and our commissioners representing us have fought steadfastly to keep this filth out of our city.

The article doesn't mention the reasons behind the decisions, and quite frankly sounds as if The Augusta Chronicle supports this business being here. This type of business only promotes crime - especially crime against women - and it is immoral to the core.

By not reporting enough of the facts in this particular article it appears as if the owners of The Augusta Chronicle are eager to have such a business here and aid X-Mart's lawsuit against the city through poor reporting!

Sue Alzheimer, Augusta

I was under the impression

I was under the impression that Bill Clinton's terms in office did away with crimes against women.(is Alzheimer really your last name?)

Yes Patricia, Bill Clinton

Yes Patricia, Bill Clinton took the Country from the "Decade of Greed" to the "Decade of Dalliance". That's not to say that there was no progress for women. Under Clinton's tenure in the Oval Office there were no reports of young female interns scrubbing floors on their knees anyplace in the White House. BTW Pat, is your last name really "Thomas"?

I would agree that there

I would agree that there could have been more coverage over this issue for those who are uninformed and those whose "inquiring minds want to know"! I would not want this store in our community either as this author is correct, it only demoralizes women to an extreme. The way it seems now, people are with multiple partners and being on welfare is one thing, but sex out of wedlock is only enhanced by such trash as this store would provide in my opinion. From previous articles, people are found with more aids cases as well. Gee, morals seems to have declined--ALOT!

Sandy Hodson reported the facts. Eventually X-Mart will win millions of Augusta taxpayer money and open. Our commissioners are ignorant of the law and it will be costly!

Hey Isterett, when Bill

Hey Isterett, when Bill Clinton was in office, young female interns were shown so much respect! Remember Monica? Stop idolizing this lying, immoral dirtbag. Thank God he won't be back in the White House under a Hillary presidency.

Many of us said when all this

Many of us said when all this began years ago that it would end up costing the city millions in legal costs and damages. It keeps moving in that direction.

I was about to comment about Clinton and Monica being off-topic but, come to think of it, "Bill and Monica" videos would fit right in with the other material on the X-Mart shelves.

They claim that X-Mart is

They claim that X-Mart is located at a corridor to the city and they don't want visitors who fly into our city to see that as they enter our city, yet they have to drive by a sewerage treatment plant on the way towards X-Mart. Does anyone besides me see (or smell) the irony in that?

Yep, when the lawsuit's

Yep, when the lawsuit's finally over and settled, the city will pay millions of dollars in fines because they're so obviously in the wrong on this one. All those of you crowing about how moral the commission is for this decision better sing praises to heaven when your taxes go up to pay for it.

There is a yin yang or ebb

There is a yin yang or ebb and flow to life. We have christian bookstores so why not porno ones. What country is this we live in? What happened to choices, free markets, blah, blah, blah. Let the store open and if there is no demand then no supply-the store will close.

I am offended by the christian bookstores more than the porn book stores. I have yet to have a pornographer knock on my door to recruit me.

I've always thought

I've always thought prostitution should be legalized because the cost to men would be less than the cost from a spouse, and more marriages would survive because of less love affairs. hee, hee, hee. Gee Republicant, I've had numerous pornographers knock on my door trying to recruit me after hearing of my incredible skills-ROFLMAO.

It would bring more crime?

It would bring more crime? Have you ever been to that part of Gordon Highway? Heck, the Parliament House is right up the road from there. Anyway, I think it funny that the sign is still there so to out of towners it may appear to still be open.

Why are people so afraid of

Why are people so afraid of X-Mart. Mind your own bedrooms. Not everyone that visits one of these stores is into crime! Take a trip to Lucy's Love Shop and see who goes in. It's mostly couples, most of them married.

Americans are the most

Americans are the most sexually repressed population on the planet and because of it we are preoccupied with sex and the taboo. Not allowing an X-mart store doesn't hinder the growth of pornograpy or use of sex toys. You can still buy massagers (vibrators) and sexual explicit magazines at your local drugstore.

Ok so we should commend

Ok so we should commend commisioners for voting against something that even if they shopped there would be paramount to political suicide. Give me a fricking break. You can't be a big city and not have these kinds of businesses. Also, whether you agree with porn or not it is legal. It's funny that churches (who by the way are tax exempt)will band together to stop a business like X-Mart (that pays taxes) from opening. There is obviously a demand for it. If I want to buy some porn and a few marital aids it's no more your business than it would be mine to tell you what religion to practice or how to practice it. See, the way the constitution works is you get the freedoms you want but you also have to live with the freedoms others want too. I know that's a hard pill to swallow but that's the way it works. So quit wasting the taxpayers money and let the store open. If people don't want it here they won't solicit it. It's not like that part of town is Rodeo drive.

You are absolutely correct

You are absolutely correct wyldsfam4 we have to tolerate what we may hate to enjoy the freedoms we love. Christians need to be careful for what they wish, because if they can gain the power to alter govt in this regard then others can gain power to alter govt to ban christianity.

The way I see it is that

The way I see it is that X-Mart wants a business license to operated in a location which is zoned for business. The suit is because the business license has been denied without any LEGAL justification. Another waste of taxpayer dollars defending an indefensible position.

Quite frankly people are

Quite frankly people are going to do what they want no matter what...This nation has become so preoccupied with sex that it is just about accepted as normal as breathing...This is wrong and should be denounced as wrong by all Christians to other believers as well as to unbelievers. If it can't be stopped then it most assuredly needs to become a loud protest by Christians from all walks of life that seek to obey God's laws and in doing so spreading the message that this type of behavior leads to acts that are sinful as well as unnatural.
