AIKEN, S.C. - Ruby Gatch Oliphant entered into rest Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Eden Gardens . Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Wendell Underwood officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mrs. Oliphant was born in Williamsburg County, South Carolina and was married to Harry Oliphant in 1941 until his passing in December of 2005. Mrs. Oliphant worked during World War II while her husband, Harry Oliphant served in WWII in the Eighth Air Force, flying 31 missions as a B17 bombardier before returning home to resume his career as a contractor in the construction industry. After this Mrs. Oliphant spent her life dedicated to her family as beloved Wife, Mother, and homemaker. Mrs. Oliphant also became an excellent artist at the age of 69 creating many beautiful paintings all the time giving God the credit for her talents. Survivors include her sons and daughters in law, Jeffrey N. and Pam Oliphant of Woodstock, GA., John E. and Toni Oliphant of Aiken, SC, her granddaughter, Claire Oliphant of Woodstock, her sister, Carmelita Swanson of Charleston, SC, her brother, Nelson Gatch of Walterboro, SC.
