AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Martin Russell Conrad Sr., an Augusta resident, died on Tuesday, July 22, 2008. He was 84 years old. A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at The Poteet Funeral Homes South Chapel with Military Honors. Chaplain Lyons will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the memorial service. Mr. Conrad was cremated. Committal services will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery on August 15, 2008. Mr. Conrad was a lifetime member of the Handyman Club and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was a veteran of the United States Army retiring with 21 years of service, having served in World War II and the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, he was an electrician for Savannah River Site. Mr. Conrad was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Rudolph Conrad and Harriet Arrowsmith Conrad and by several sisters. Mr. Conrad is survived by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Ruth Fitzsimmons Conrad; his sons, Ralph (Judy) Conrad, Martin Conrad Jr., Robert (Julie) Conrad, Bill (Esther) Conrad, and John (Desra) Conrad; daughters, Ruth Ann Hood (Jerry) and Carol Dabney (Marshall); sisters, Mildred Spaw and Esther Oliphant; thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
